Hi

Would be great to get some knowledgeable advice.

I first started playing piano about 2 years back, I started with the Px 350 from Casio.

I gave that away to a family with two young boys to help them learn piano as they grow up (they are both under 16.

With the PX 350, it had a nice function to play backing beats, it had great few gospel and swing beats, and if I am honest I used to like to brake lose a little and play around the beats. improvisation.

Ok so fast forward, a little and I have bought a VPC1 connected to Kontakt, I bought Ravenscroft 275 etc.

But no beats, sure I have a computer so having a little more money than sense I bought a Maschine studio (the big one)

Well I am completely out of my depth with that, its awesome and I have spent around 15 hours in a number of sessions including signing up to groove 3 to do the training, and yes I know in time it would be really cool to keep it.

But this is not really my thing, I am not a 20 year old hip hop dude, I am more classical or jazz or gospel orientated, I am not going to be making "fat beats", or "working on my beats".

What do I do here, sell the Masschine studio, release the VPC1 (I will cry if that is the case I love my vpc1).

And then we get an korg kronos 2? an arranger?

I have a really nice professional piano stand, along with the double mount Quiklok Z-726L

For ref I also have a proper external audio interface plus shure super 55 deluxe.

I miss being able to come home, turn on the keyboard, press two buttons and have a cool backing beat.

The only issue I had about the casino px 350 was that I wanted to improve the feel of the keyboard and also I got tired of the backing beats.

We put a second keyboard on the top rack of the Quiklok Z-726L here?

We actually site down and learn how to use Daw (reaper is my choice)?

We drop every thing and move to the Korg Kronos 2 even if it does not feel as good as the vpc1?

What do I do here, I guess im looking for a serious amount of cool backing beats some thing like a band behind me, that changes and I get to play along with it,

Would love to keep the vpc1 to do this.

Pointers in the right direction appreciated.

thanks forum

I voted for the kronos but it also depends on how complicated you want to get. I have an old kronos 73. The first version no I find I just love being able to turn it on and play along with the grooves. The thing is that there is a lot of groove to play along with and it might take a while to get a handle on how to change them up.

Just a thought!

Do you want the kind of backing you can get from Karma? then Kronos. Would you prefer the backing you can get form an arranger, kind of sounds like that to me, then maybe the new PA4x.

How about something like band in the box?

I have maschine mk2 for several years and I do not do hip hop but it can easily set up some beats. I also like to mess around with drummer in Logic. You really need to decide what you want to accomplish and how you will be the most comfortable getting there. Either way there is a learning curve. I use Kornos X61 Logic and Machine. I am only just learning to understand what I like and how i want to get there and I have been trying for a few years!

Any friends with this gear that can walk you through it before you fork out the cash and find yourself unhappy with it? I would also go through the Maschine quick start again and start with basic backing beats then improvise form their, you have a nice chunk of change into it it would be far less expensive to dig in a bit. I am still confused by that type of arranging a song though with time it is slow making sense and I think trying to work with it has helped me.
