You might start in the AL-1 with a square wave with very short decay and release. _________________ Chris (Belgium) |

Yes, That's a great tip! With some tweaking got it close enough. |

Hi, I have a question about the PCG for "Never Been Any Reason".
It's a great patch, but seems to be missing the big vibrato/LFO that occurs at the end of the synth solo. I would have expected this to be controlled by the the XY joystick/modwheel.
If it is not in the patch, can someone explain how I could add that modulation?
Thanks in advance? |

Hrm. I must have missed that, or assigned it to something and simply forgot. *shrugs*
So what you want to do is on the OSC/Pitch page of either or both oscillators, on the "Pitch EG/Mod" panel, assign:
EG Select to be LFO1
Leave the intensity as 00.00.
Make the AMS Joy -Y or +Y, whatever controller assignment you choose.
Under THAT intensity, choose around 00.12 to 00.15 and adjust to flavor.
Do this for both oscillators.
You can catch the details of what all of this does in the Korg Kronos Manual, page 194:
http://i.korg.com/uploads/Support/USA_KRONOS_Param_Guide_E5.pdf
I'm not at my Kronos so I'm going from memory but that SHOULD do it for you.
**edit - I realize this is only for HD-1 or AL-1 engines. If I did make the sound with another engine, let me know and I'll tell you how to do it there too** _________________ Korg Kronos 88 2, Korg Kronos 73, Kurzweil K2600S

I'm not going to do this one - It's an entire performance combi. Most of this can be done entirely with stock sounds, the exception is only the opening sound which is nothing more than a dual saw slightly detuned with a filter sweep assigned to the EG. _________________ Korg Kronos 88 2, Korg Kronos 73, Kurzweil K2600S

I don't have a VSynth GT, so I don't know what you mean when you want pads that sound like that *shrugs* _________________ Korg Kronos 88 2, Korg Kronos 73, Kurzweil K2600S

Thanks Max,
This is really an interesting sound. It definitely doesn't need MOD-7 to make it though... BUT let me see if I can pull it off in MOD-7. I haven't played with that engine very much, but think I might be able to do it with enough toying around. _________________ Korg Kronos 88 2, Korg Kronos 73, Kurzweil K2600S

I would love it if you could recreate this organ tone/leslie settings. I can't get over how good it sounds at 35 seconds in.
The track in question is "Seven" by Cory Henry

I need a spotify account, which I don't have to listen to your example.

Hey Enigma! I don't know if you are still taking requests, but I always wanted to have a lead sound like the one Derek Sheridan uses for his epic solos. I've tried and failed to get there. Would you possibly be able to find time to recreate this tone?

Funny enough, I think I've done this somewhere already.
Originally it was programmed on the Trinity, and he used MOSS to get the feedback layer. He layers two layers together, Saw and Pulse 33%, but you can easily get this using the HD-1 synth.
Use two oscillators, but here's how you can sneakily get 3 layers happening.
On Oscillator 1, you can set the layers to have two waveforms happening at the same time by setting the layer method to "Layer" on the right side under the properties of the oscillator itself. (Where you select the waveform)
Choose Saw for layer 1, and Pulse 33% for layer 2. This all happens under oscillator 1. Make sure your filter is a 12db LP filter, set for around 70 or 75 to make it slightly darker.
Oscillator 2 will be straight sine but it's triggered for feedback only when you have aftertouch or using the Ribbon. I guess it depends on how you want to control it.
Effects wise, you're going to have something like IFX1 being the overdrive/wah effect, assigning the filter control to Joy -Y, and then likely MFX or TFX being a 450ms tapped delay. Probably not stereo, but it's hard to tell without having a stereo video.
Knowing Derek though, he probably just used Saw instead of Saw + Pulse 33% like he used to, but still likely in the HD-1 synth. I doubt he would have programmed it in the AL-1 synth despite having way more control that way.
For old-school authenticity, call it "Monster lead" but if you want it to be true Derek Kronos fashion, call it "KILLER LEAD" though I've heard "Killer f*ck*ng lead" as well. Probably the former. Name however you feel you want it.
Either way, I don't have time to do this myself otherwise I would but this should at the very least get you started in the right direction for getting the tone itself down. It's definitely not hard to make, there are just some small nuances like the filter depth, the effects assignment and the Sine that fades in with pressure. (Or however you want to have it assigned)
Good luck! _________________ Korg Kronos 88 2, Korg Kronos 73, Kurzweil K2600S

Thanks Enigma! I'm not sure I entirely get all of it, but you've given me a place to start and I'll try to observe what happens when I change various parameters. I didn't even know 1 Oscillator could have two layers. On my old Korgs, each oscillator could only take only sound.
Anyway, I'll just have to sit down and see what I can do. I'm sure I'll learn plenty in the process.
Cheers. _________________ Kronos 2 88, Korg T1, Mesa Boogie Triaxis/2:90, TC G-major II. |
