Is it possible to convert a Yamaha style to PA4X with MIDI TO STYLE converter?
If you changed the extension of the Yamaha style from .sty to .mid, and used the converter in the PA4x, would it work?
I have over 300 song specific styles in Yamaha format that I would like to convert.
I will probably buy a PA4x if I can do this.

Thanks ahead of time,
Gerard

Hi
I have converted some , ( but not with the new convertor function)
may not be as easy as just changing .sty to .mid.

The new convertor function, though simple to use, chooses the parts it wants to use for the style, you have no input.

Not sure you'd get an exact replica of the style.

Thank you Nemik for your information.

I have a lot of SFF2 styles and would take a long time to convert to SFF1 and then use the sytle to midi converter program.

I am just wondering if anybody has taken a Yamaha style file, changed the extension to .mid and then used the PA4x MIDI TO STYLE function to create a Korg style file.

This program doing 1000+ styles on fly.
Taking entire folders Laughing
But then you need do many adjust after import to Korg, but at least you got good start, all midi notes is already there, only 1CV, Yamaha has only 1 version of Variation, Korg has 6 possibilities . Wink

If you change only extension, you get midi, but not song,... it will be midi in 1 chord progression with Markers (yamaha markers).
This program is changing this markers for Korg Markers.
Will be more effective after just import this converted midi to new Style
Import with Markers. will be works much better that using MIDI TO STYLE function. Wink

Thanks for the link.
I was wondering if it's possible to convert some Yamaha styles that use samples.
I have one or two styles from Yamaha PSR A2000 Oriental that I would like to convert to Pa4X. Just wondering if it's possible.

I took a Yamaha style Have You Ever Seen The Rain and changed the extension from .sty to .mid.
I played the MIDI file.
The 4 variations are first, then the intros, and then the endings.
I had thought the intros would be first.

Hi
not going to work .
The song convertor is for song midifiles , not song based styles.
It appears to be looking for an intro at the beginning of the song.
Tried a few , it's creating an intro out of the variation.

Don't use it very often, but thought I'd give my old EMC style convert program a try with some yammie song styles, I'd been given.
It seemed to do an ok job, though don't know how good they were in the first place. Not something I play.
If you have ability to check. Pa4x out, I could run some of your styles thru EMC and you could see if they would be good enough.
It batch converts , so only takes a few minutes.

Thanks for the info Rikki.

I forgot that I have Styleworks XT which will convert all Yamaha styles, including SFF2, to Korg PA3X styles.

It will take a while to do all the styles but it might be worth it.

I can save these as a .sty file or SET.

If I save these as a .sty, can I load them individually, on the fly, from a USB drive?

Regards,
Gerard

I apologize for not following up sooner on your request, but I haven't had any success simply converting Yamaha style to midi and then converting to Korg. Maybe it is the particular style I tried, but it did not turn out well at all.

Hi Gerard,
Me too. Hardly ever think to use Styleworks. It has some quirks, which affected certain styles I wanted to convert. Some of the complex styles it didn't do a great job on. In the end I gave up and stopped using it.

I took a look at some the song styles, and noticed how simple a lot of them were in structure.
So I thought I'd give Styleworks a try.

Copy the styles you want to convert into folders of their own
Also make sure you keep ssf1 and ssf2 seperate.
You can have quite a few files in a folder, program will just keep saving them into banks.

Style convert
Yamaha
Tyros
Closed the popup

Pressed
FOLDER icon instead
Located folder my folder at top of screen
Pressed on the first song
Pressed open

Then I chose destination at bottom of screen
( my USB stick)
Pressed ok
It started the Batch Conversion

There were some ssf1 files mixed in with ssf2 files, warned me along the way.
The ssf1 styles were ignored. Hence try and sort into seperate folders if you have a mix.

At the end , saved as set.
USB stick plugged it into Korg.
In Korg pressed user direct button.
Direct preferences drop down menu , located my set.
Came up with a convert icon, pressed yes
The styles now popped up in Direct Play mode, no need to load.

This will give you a very quick batch conversion.
40 styles took about 3 minutes.
They'll need volume tweaking
Change of sounds maybe ( default is Gm)

But at least if you do them, save them to USB, you can go try them at a store no need to load.
Just download a manual and familiarise yourself with

User Direct option for styles. Ie playing styles directly from USB stick.

Thank you again Rikki,

Is there a way to tell if a style is SFF1 or SFF2?

I have over 300 to convert.

Also, some of the styles I have, I created from MIDI files, using Styleworks.

Maybe I could use the MIDI SONG to STYLE converter on the PA4X for those and might convert better.

Gerard

In the new Korg it is reasonably easy to organise your styles even directly on your USB stick with copy and paste function and delete function. You can copy& delete individual styles or whole banks. So if not quite correct, you just reorganise.

Gerard

Hi Gerard
there is a style checker in EMC , but would take some time to check them all.
Basically doesn't really matter if there is a mix of the 2 types, when it's batch converting , just say you have set it for ssf2, and there's some sff1's mixed in , it will skip them and keep going.

You can check on the drop down menu, which ones went thru ok,
The one's that didn't pop in a seperate folder, and put them thru in Sff1 format.

Once you get the hang of it , it only takes a few minutes to do 100 styles in a folder as batch convert.

The only problem if there is a mix, the styles that are in EMC default bank show up.
Not sure if they can be deleted in the program itself.
Been a long time dinner e I used it.

If you still have the original midifiles, doesn't hurt to try putting them thru, and see which gives better result.

But if you 're referring to a PSR song style you created in EMC from a midifile. You'll have to do as per above, not thru Korg song convertor.

Hi Rikki,
Batch mode did not work in Styleworks.

It did a convert for a folder but, when I open the set, in STYLE PLAYER, in Styleworks, and want to select a style to play, there are weird names for the individual styles.

Converting the styles individually worked perfect.

It would take some time but doing it individually seems to be the best way to go.

I will end up with about 400 styles to use with the PA4X.

Now the question is, on the PA4X, can I play any of these 400 styles directly from the USB stick?

Or do I have to put them in FAVORITE OR USER banks first?

Regards,
Gerard
