Back to the topic, no question that it is very sad to hear of so many musical pioneers and trailblazers passing on. We will truly treasure the memories of their talent and accomplishments. Myself, I will always be stuck on the great music of the 60's, 70's, some of the 80's. Not much on the FM radio appeals to me, I stick to Satellite service now where I can choose what I want to listen to. I will always savor the music made by those artists who have influenced me the most. Just my 2 cents worth this morning. Cheers, GNB

I am from the same generation but I still like current artists and their music. I also have to agree that there is a pull back to the songs of the past because of the memories they bring back to me.

You actually made me think that the reason we like old songs is because
of the memories we have with/from them...not because the music was better
then now...which kinda makes sense to me.

I actualy think the reason old music was better might be the valid point as well.

Speaking not about music but about old video games there is something megical about them which modern games lucks. On paper modern video games might look better but in reality they are not to me.

I think good memories might put something why i like old game but the main point is:
I think the reason why old video games so magical to me but modern games are not is because the old games where made with love but new one are made because of business. In old days people who were making games just wanted to use their imagination at best and did not think too much about money profit and how many sales will be or even might did not think about money and sales at all.
The same rules can apply to music.

My mother just has passed away on 1 of October 2016. That is very sad to me. Because we where putting a lot of things on later time and now later time never happen in this life.

So people do not put good things on later time because later time might never happen in this life!

She was unselfish parson which are very hard to find in this life. She were giving the best to me but not for her self.

I hope my mother goes to God. Who is my master.

Sorry for your loss Chilly7. It is tough to lose a close family member. And to feel as if they didn't live as full a life as possible. Remember that for some, to live their lives for others, is fulfilling in its own way. Good thoughts going your way.

I think one of the reasons us old timers prefer the older music is because it took real musicians to perform most of the stuff. Today so many tracks are laid down by computers and the vocalist lays down his track afterwards and hopefully not too heavily processed. I know I prefer real musicians and vocalists with all their flaws. Of course there are still musicians that perform their own material, but we do hear a lot of producer generated songs.

As far as the "Real Musician Based Music" that's out there, some of it still sounds good to our ears and some of it may be a bit foreign, but every generation likes to have music that their parents just don't understand. Remember the early days of Rock and Roll?

Sad to hear, Chilly.

On another note( insert musical pun here), I prefer to listen to newer music than older music. My reasons are possibly a bit complicated because when I do hear older rock music, I certainly do like it. Beatles, Cream, Deep Purple, CCR, Led Zep, Heck, ever the Monkees! On into the 70,s with all the great prog bands, hair metal from the 80's.

The thing for me is I've never liked auto tuned vocals. my attitude has always been, "if you can't sing" shut up or try harder!

Queen never used auto tune. Not that they could really sing either though. Wink

I prefer to listen to newer music because it gives me the same excitement that I got when I first listened to a song many years ago. How many of you can remember the first time you heard "Roundabout" by Yes? Can you remember where you were and what you were doing? I can. I was in my bedroom trying to do my homework from high school. The song stopped me dead in my tracks.

Today, I get the same feeling the first time I put on a brand new Dream Theater cd. Or a Spock's Beard cd.

Music is like that. It's a marvelous thing! It's an invisible time machine! It can transport you anywhere and we are the luckiest people in the world. In a way, we are all Doctor Whos. We are all Time Lords! We can create memories and cause emotions!

Never forget that! We are indeed the privileged few! We have an honour and a duty to keep up the faith and the good work!
