Hi everyone,
Last week I was able to buy me a “vintage” Korg TR-Rack sound module (1998). I’ve had several modules over the past few years (Ketron SD2, GEM-RPX, Roland SD-50 and Sound Canvas), but in the end I never really liked any of them. Some because of the sounds (Rolands), some because of lack of direct control (SD2) and/or problems with midi/integration with my PA3X (volumes not responding etcetera).
But now that’s all over. I’ve connected the TR-Rack and it’s just awesome! Not all solo sounds are up-to date of course, but the (512!) Combis, especially the Moving Synths and Complex registrations are so well programmed. They kick … even in 2017! Sounds are warm and clear and interesting, and a perfect match with a lot of the PA3X sounds. I’ve midi-connected it with the Upper 3 part of my PA3X and it brings an extra dimension to my instrument. No problem selecting sounds from my PA3X using the midi-codes and volume setting responds well. It’s a breeze to program a performance or STS with the TR-Rack. Of course, it’s a KORG !
If you like moving synths and complex pads, if you can buy a TR-Rack second-hand (app. 200 euros), don’t hesitate.
Listen to some demos made by Synthmania (which is a great website by the way) on his website:

and see/hear them on youtube:

Would be great if Korg would create an up-to-date module based on the Kronos. In a small rack, because I find the TR-Rack quite big. A Korg module with the size of a SD2, with the sound quality of a TR-Rack based on Kronos sounds… why not? _________________ Musical grtz, Frans
