Hello all. I recently purchased a Safire pro 40 fire wire and post unboxing I discovered that it will not connect to my pc. Yikes! Any suggestions?

Several options.

1. If it's a "standard format" PC with expansion slots, get a Firewire expansion card to suit the slots available (e.g. PCI or PCI Express). They're relatively inexpensive. A USB to Firewire converter won't work for this device.

2. Return it and get a USB-compatible interface instead.

3. Use the existing soundcard and audio ins and outs on the PC, if they offer Line in and Line out capability.

.

I bought from an individual at a great value. The Saffire site suggested a Sonnet extender. But I dont want to go chasing shadows, if there is no device that will help I will sell it on eBay because it is in pristine condition. All of the plugins are in the box along with the warranty info. Thank you for your help.

If you want to use it with a laptop, and the laptop lacks a firewire port, then sell the Focusrite.

If it's a desktop computer, after-market firewire interfaces are cheap and easy to install. Select one with a TI chipset.

That's an excellent interface, btw.

Thanks for your response. I have my eye on that texas instruments chip set recommended by focusrite. Unfortunately for now I am monitoring through my head phones. Iam thinking about buying the computer from the guy that I bought the focusrite from. It is good to go since it was the computer that was used wit the focusrite. It is a beast of a computer with four hard drives an terabytes of space.

I also use the Saffire Pro with the Syba SY-PEX30016 card I bought from Amazon for $24.

Did you install it your self? Is it fairly easy?

Yes it was very easy to install for me.

Of course you need to make sure you have an available slot in the motherboard for the card.
