In a way Sharp is right: Pianos, EPs, other sampled sounds and synths (PLUS a variety of first class drum boxes and sequencers) are available in equal sound quality and much more variety on any actual iPad, at a fraction of the price

I don't think you can get a Nord-caliber piano out of an iPad yet. Some of this is subjective, I know, but I'd also choose the Nord pianos over the Kronos pianos.

But it's not strictly a matter of sound. Perhaps the biggest thing about Nord is the immediate interface, and the sense that you're playing an instrument rather than operating a computer.

Sure you can get great synth sounds out of an iPad or a Kronos, but if you are truly "playing" a synth, there's nothing like having a bunch of dedicated hard controls, logically laid out and labeled according to their function, something you don't get on an iPad or a Kronos.

Even not counting the synth... I have a Kronos and an Electro 5D. Both great boards. But at gigs, I use the Kronos to call up preset patches from the Set List mode, whereas I use the Nord more "interactively." From that perspective, if I had to replace one with an iPad, it would be harder to replace the Nord! (But of course, the Kronos has different attributes that can not be well duplicated on an iPad, too.)
