|
|
Hello - I've been creating songs using my Electribe, guitar, and Mininova Synth and need some help. So far, I've just been plugging my Electribe stereo into my Focusrite audio interface with quarter inch cords, playing the song with my Electribe and recording that way. Is there a better way I can get my patterns onto my computer and not lose sound quality? It seems like it would be a lot of work to transfer each pattern individually via a SD card and then editing them all together into Ableton. I greatly appreciate any help. I'm a total noob and just want my songs to achieve the highest audio quality possible. |

What type of Electribe do you have? If it's the new one I think it supports recording snippets like you describe. Otherwise I just do what you do now without the focusrite cause I'm kinda lazy/cheap like that. |

Yeah I find audio cables the best ,easiest way. Not much audio quality loss.
If its fast ,then its best for me.
Do you have a problem with how its sounding at the moment? |

Thanks for the replies guys. I have the Electribe 2 Music Production Station. It isn't a dramatic loss in quality but the YouTube videos and other Electribe songs I'm hearing sound much better quality wise. You can judge for yourself.. here is a song I recently recorded. Most of it is coming straight from my Electribe. https://soundcloud.com/user-457813628/coastal-remix |

As you mentioned, the only other method is exporting the pattern as Ableton Live Set, pulling them off SD card and arranging.
So the bottle-neck in terms of quality is: a) your samples, b) your audio interface c) your Ableton settings.
Checklist:
In Ableton do you have 'Default SR & Pitch Conversion' set to 'High Quality' under Preferences -> Audio? This is the same as the 'HiQ' button on a clip's Sample tab.
Do you choose the highest-quality (but more CPU-intensive) settings for certain effects like Chorus, Reverb etc?
Uploading to Soundcloud lets them apply all their compression magic to it, definitely flattens things a bit.
Your material sounds good, especially the piano chords and leads. Could you go with higher quality drum samples? Or better yet, sequence them in Ableton from the Electribe and then replace with stereo drum samples? |

Thanks for the great reply it's much appreciated. I haven't done those things in Ableton to up the quality but will definitely do that now.
Thanks for checking out the song. I 100% agree about the drums being the weak link. I haven't been able to find solid drum sounds with the Electribe that suit that kind of music. I've been thinking about drum plugins but don't know anything about them. Are you able to explain how I would sequence the drums in Ableton and replace with stereo drum samples? Again, thanks for the help! |

How do I use that export function? If you could explain it like I'm a 10 year old that would be awesome |

copy/paste from the manual (p.15):
Quote: | Writing to a WAV file.
You can write patterns or a pattern set to a memory card.
Exporting a pattern to a WAV file
1. Select the EXPORT AUDIO option from the DATA utility
menu.
2. Select the format (WAV file only, or Ableton Live Set) to write.
3. Pressing the Menu/Enter button will export current pattern.
Exporting a pattern set to a WAV file
1. Select the EXPORT P.SET AUDIO option from the DATA
utility menu.
2. Select the format (WAV file only, or Ableton Live Set) to write.
3. Set a range of patterns recorded as pattern sets from 1 to 64 to
be written as a file.
TIP A longer time may be required if a wide range of pattern
sets is set to be written.
4. Pressing the Menu/Enter button exports patterns recorded as
pattern sets in a WAV file format. |
