Hi
I'll be getting a PA4X in the very near future, (changing from a Tyros 5), and have been reading the manual.
I'm a bit confused about some of the terminology in particular when it comes to registrations. At no point have I come across a reference to registrations but term such as keyboard set etc.
I use the Tyros for home use mainly but also gig once a month backing a singer using edited/adjusted midi files for our backing.
The Tyros, as many of you will know, allows you to store up to 8 registration changes in one bank pressing a corresponding button each time you change registration. It's easy and you can assign a pedal to advance the registrations for you.
Is there a similar system on the PA4X? Will it allow you to do the same as the tyros with respect to saving settings, saving and naming banks and being able to use a pedal?
This way of working is quite important in my playing and I realise different brands have different methods.

Any help or advice would really be very much appreciated.

Smile

Hi there lordspudz

WELCOME to the forums!!!

The PA4X primarily uses its SONGBOOK feature for "registrations" - this could be renamed "full-keyboard-registrations".
The term "SONGBOOK" is really where you can store all your "full keyboard" registrations - i.e. ready-to-play - these can be style, sequence or MP3 based

If, whilst playing you want to load up a different set of sounds, then this is where "KEYBOARD-SETs" come in - this could be renamed "SOUND-registrations" if you like but they do not change styles.
SONGBOOK also has an associated feature "SET-LISTS" - perfect for organising gig sets or any convenient sets of "SONGBOOK" entries.

Have another read-up now on SONGBOOK (with SET-LISTs) and KEYBOARD-SETS and please come back with anything we can help you with.
(Please make sure you are referencing the latest PA4X Version 2 manual)
No question is considered "stupid" so please "ask" to your heart's content.

Tyros 5 is a great machine but I think you'll be totally blown away with the PA4X.

Cheers

Pete Very Happy

Many thanks Pete, that's helped clear up some of the confusion. I'll get back to the manual and re-read it properly now Smile

Keysets are the same as Yamaha OTS. (One-touch settings).
Songbook is used for "registrations", as mentioned.
We also have Setlists, which can be used for instantly saving entries from Songbook into categorized lists.
Give yourself time to learn the system and you will find it quicker, easier and more powerful than Yamaha registration system.

You can also program the assignable switches to move up/down Setlist
