Probably the only thing I am disappointed with is the lack of smooth sound transistion between programs and combos, especially since my meek PA500 had no issues. I thought, a more expensive board with more features, STS would be a given. Some have said it is because of the sound engone, but I don't understand that..

My work around is this (so far). Firstly, using one combi with the layers I want. I can use 3 knobs as faders by using the stereo limiter or compressor (thanks Dan Stesco), yes I know this means using 3 different ifx's limiting your combi to 2. I can also use my footswitch to turn on or off a layer via another ifx. That leaves one ifx.

I then can use my expression pedal to control the volume/expression of a layer. This means with the foot switch and expression pedal I can control two layers without taking my hands off the board. This is what I am doing mostly.

Can you see any iterations of this that do not chew up ifx's?

Cheers
John

If there was another way Dan Stesco or others would have found out already.
A few weeks ago Roland released a new firmware for their FA line which seems to support smooth sound transition. For live performance this reallys give the Roland FAs an advantage over the Krome. So may be this puts some pressure on Korg to give us a similar firmware update.

I would be happy even if smooth transitions would work only on the the first 8 sound slots and use the other sounds to maintain the transition. If they are at it may be they can also integrate a direct way to switch and blend sounds without using an FX slot.
I sometimes blend from one sound to another with the expression pedal. Of course this uses 2 FX slots. But it gives a little bit the Super Knob feeling of the Yamaha Montage.
