Cubase SX-2! Very good indeed with great tools and sound engine. Still developing and improving. Working in pair with Wavelab is really strong.

Hello again, Guys.

Recently, last week, I decided to give a new try to Cubase SX.
I love the way that programs works in terms on audio, (the best, I think) but I´m not as happy with it in terms of MIDI, I should say.
Lots of menus, clicks and windows to everithing, I still think its cuantization options are not very intuitive and easy to use, and this is more evident in the Score editor. Also, I´m not used to its editors. I´m not comfortable, lets say.
I have a routine of working in Logic, I guess.
But I like so much SX in general.

However, If I can cope to get used to how the Score editor works, cuantization, editors, etc, I might swich to this program.

there are things I don like on Cubase, thats all.

You know, I love Logic, (that score editor...oh, I love it, simply, to bits) but it is a finished plattform on PC, and as long as Windows SOs will change and develop, the actual 5.5 version is pointless, will fail to work one day, and also, not to mention not having updates nor new plug ins, etc, its also an issue.

I´m still working on Logic, and I´will be for a long time, but...No doubt.
PC Logic users may look elsewhere, thats a fact.

I´m wanna try Sonar as well.
I´ve never tried a Cakewalk since Cakewalk Pro 7, which didnt worked very well IMHO, (lots of bugs, etc) but Sonar 3 atracts me a lot.
I want to see its editors, scores, and cuantization tools in action, yes; maybe it will be more easy for someone of my Logic habbits than the Steinberg´s. Laughing

I also wanna check that Lexicon revs.
If they are a real Lexicons, uf. ...Just that fact scores so much, isnt it?
What can you tell me about it? Rolling Eyes

I am on Sonar 4 but i am thinking of going to Logic 7 on a MAC.

i am sick of windows and pc problems !!

sonar is great but windows #@$^ it up....hanging and crashes galore....even though my pc is tweaked to the max---(MACS -lol)

there is nothing wrong with sonar....its what sonar is running on IMHO !! that cause the problems

Well, I'm poor and bought Cubase SE and have been using it for a few months now. I like it because it was easy to use out of the box and the vst implementation is near perfect for what I like to compose. For around a hundred US, it's pretty cool for hobbyist applications.\

I was formerly a heavy Cakewalk/Sonar user but since i swtiched to Mac as my primary audio platform i had to switch to another sequencer.

I decided on Cubase SL which is a nice "mid range" version that doesnt cost nearly as much as SX cause they removed alot of the features i'd have no use for anyways. (Like the 5.1 surround support)

Seems to run pretty stable and has most of the features i've come to love from Cakewalk/Sonar...
...In fact. Most of these features seem to be direct copies of what sonar had been doing for years. Everything from the Midi Insert Plugins to the Track view actually showing you the contents of the piano roll.
The only thing i havent seen yet is the multilayer piano roll view. But i'm sure that will come eventually.

I WISH i could have afforded to get into logic but they really did price it out of the market for home studio users like myself.
Then again, i've always had bad experiences in the past trying to set up enviornments in logic... too confusing.

Hi there David,

I'm in the same boat as you and have managed to upgrade my XSkey to Logic 6.4 on a 'floor' model G5. Now i have ALL the softsynths (as off v5 excluding the convulation verb) and do not need to actually BUY a G5.

I am sufficiently used to logic to NOT want to invest in anything else at the moment. I've used Sonar 3 (ok ok) Cubasexl but nothing gets me going like Logic. It is so versatile and 'tweakable'.

I've dallied with Protools 6 and with DP4 and though i'm impressed with some of the features, most things can be done within logic with relative ease and there are work arounds.

I've found that with careful planning of the sessions and other such details, i'm able to do a lot of work within Logic relatively fast ... and Mackie Control Universal just makes mixing etc so much more easier.

I have managed to track 40 tracks at once using MOTU interfaces for a live recording using my W2k machine and scsi drives - it was a 3 hour concert and we had stuff flying everywhere - all mixer inputs were recorded post mixer (per channel) and pre mixer (DI) with EFX written separately. Needless to say It was one of my most scariest gigs ever because i had NO backup system for recording. Oh we made sure that power requirements were safe and that there would be no brownouts and blackouts - yep used a generator for backup.

Never got a glitch crackle pop or distortion in LAWP and yes this was at 24bit 44.1khz. No don't even try to figure out how much HDD we went through for that recording. The project leader had his head screwed on right and he had 5 DA98s synced together as well as 3 spare DA98s in case one died on us.

So I trusted LAWP then and still do my work on it. Nothing short of a MAJOR lottery winning will make me want to switch to another platform.

If the logic audio engine improves significantly and bugs reduce in number, then i'll take the plunge and get me a G5 to do music on. But until then i'm staying on this band wagon till the cows come home.

I read a review in one of the many recording music magazines I subscribe to, about Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro. It doesn't do MIDI, but that didn't factor in anyway, so I bought it, and tried a few simple recordings, and I really like it very much so far.
It really set itself up properly, (a big deal for me), and runs smooth as silk without hogging up Cpu power.
Anyone else tried this?
