I just hooked up a Proline damper pedal. It works fine but for some reason when I press it I hear a sound that sounds like a crash cymbal a little pit, or maybe a woosh sound. Any advice would be great.

Thx

For the SGX-1 piano, right?

This is the "Damper Noise", which is meant to emulate the noise the pedal makes throughout the strings and wood of the piano when you press it. It is a nice touch, but I find it a bit loud by default.

You can adjust the setting under the "EXi 1" tab. In the lower right corner you can see 4 check boxes with dB values next to them. Set it to your liking or disable it completely if you prefer.

Proline never have me the right sustain response and failed on me in the first year. I got the Korg DS 1H and a basic Yamaha foot switch.
But yes The sound you hear is likely the ACC piano realism feature. They put them in to mimic the mechanical noise of acoustic pianos.
And as mentioned, you have the option to turn the sounds down or off.
