Hi this is my first post here and I’m a new Kronos owner - what an instrument!

I also have a Yamaha Motif xf8, which is great in its own right.

Have done some searching online and here, but can’t find an answer to my quest. Need some coaching on setting more than one split in a combi. Ideally having as many as 4 (or more) sounds or programs available on the keyboard at once for live use. From what I’ve learned about combi mode, I should be able to load up to 16 sounds, but nothing I’ve found is clear about how to arrange multiple sounds on the board at once.

My Motif can have up to four sounds split across the keyboard in a “performance” (similar to a combi, but less powerful)... how can I achieve the same or similar with the Kronos?

Thanks in advance for your help with what I’m sure is a noob question.

Paul

If you want, on the Kronos you can make a 16 voice split, assiging different programs to the 16 Combi timbres, all sending them to the midi channel you are playing, with 16 different keyzones defined

I often have 4-5 in a single combi (for some individual sounds or triggering a sample or sample loop, next to a few keyboard sounds)

Kronos is the most flexible piece of equipment I ever owned, so you won't regret it

Hope this helps

This might help as well

One of the great tutorials of Qui Robinez

Go through all of them, if you have the time!

check also the Kronos Parameter Guide around page 481

You need to set keyboard zones (Combi mode - MidiFilter/Zones - keyboardzones) and then set lower and upper key for each layer

In Combi mode - Timbre parameters - Midi Channel, set all zones for your split to 'Gch'

And don't forget to Save your work/combi

You can assign different Effects to all of them, Pan, Volume etc

And e.g. switch on/off damper for each of them in "Combi mode - MidiFilter/Zones-MidiFilter1" "enable damper"

PLUS you can use Karma to easily switch certain sounds on and off in your combi! See here for example on how to do that: https://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14430

Forgot I had posted this before my Kronos even delivered. I’ve got it cooking now - just built a 4 sound test combi using the instructions above. Took me a bit with FX and transposing, but now that I’ve sorted the parameters, it’ll go faster next time.

Thanks ALL FOR YOUR HELP!

There are quite a few useful video tutorials on the web e.g. by Qui Robinez, Korg, David Champagne, to name a few. Although the following video doesn't deal specifically with splits and layers, it does give some useful tips and is worth watching first:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ4VvxUzG6E

This next video deals with layers and splits:

And, already mentioned in a previous posting:
