|
|
I'm planning on building myself a home studio, and by this I mean collecting all the gear I have lying around here and there. I will be building the desk myself in oak wood, so that all the equipment will fit perfectly and I can have the different units (instruments and other gear) where I want them. Since I'm a mechanical engineer I have access to CAD software, and I plan on modelling the entire studio in 3D to make it easier to customize the workdesk itself.
So I've been searching around online to see if I could find a 3D model of the Kronos, but all I could find was a video of someone modeling the 61 key version (but no downloadable content). I can model it myself, but the only dimensions I could find is the overall dimensions on Korg's priduct info pages:
(W x D x H) 1455 x 411 x 145 mm (http://www.korg.com/us/products/synthesizers/kronos_x/page_5.php)
Does anyone know if more detailed dimensions are available somewhere online?
Thanks! |

I highly doubt you will find a document like that online.
If your able to 3D model, then why not place a photo of the KRONOS onto a flat quad. You can overlay your model with that quad and use that as a point of reference for everything.
No need to have measurements when you can trace directly off the photo.

Using a reference image is a good idea I’ll se if I can find front, side and top image of the Kronos and go from there. |

Access to engineering software... I highly suggest you don't bother with those, and just download SketchUp (it's free). It has all you need to make a model of your future studio and bounce ideas around. It's dead easy to input accurate dimensions and make anything from simple models quickly, to complicated models fairly easily.
You can use the 3D warehouse to input finished models (there's many musical instruments and equipment on there, sadly no Kronos), and you can learn the software very quickly. Three tips: Don't bother with detailed modeling, just make sure you're inputing the right dimensions; check that the 3D warehouse models are the right dimensions as well and correct them if necessary. 2: make HEAVY use of "make component" 3: there's nothing wrong with pen and paper, make lots of sketches before you delve into modeling |

I'd love to do a 3D scan, but my money is better spent elsewhere
As for SketchUp, I've never used that before but I do use SolidWorks on a daily basis as I'm working in product development. The hardest thing with making a model would be to find the time for it!
And thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at 3D warehouse (even if no Kronos yet) |

I've been using Photogrammetry myself the last week or so. Here's some of the work I've done.

Scary to think how this actually works.

Wow, some good stuff there Sharp.
How do you go about using Photogrammetry, what software did you use? |

The easiest I have seen is to use 123D Catch on an ipad. Free, super simple and pretty good results too! _________________ Korg Kronos 88 #444 /3GB, MU modular synth, PPG Wave 2.3, Modal Electronics 002, TTSH, Oberheim Two Voice Pro, Deckard's Dream, Kijimi, MatrixBrute, Access Virus KC, Ensoniq EPS, Korg Microsampler, Behringer Model D, Behringer Pro~1, Roland JP-08, Roland VP-03, Roland JD-08, Roland TR-8, Akai MPC-X, Roland TD-12 V-Drums, Fender Precision Bass, Martin Custom D Guitar, Sterling JP-60 Guitar, PRS Santana SE Guitar (signed), Logic Pro X, Pulsar P900 Series, Arturia V Collection 6 as well as various iPad & soft synths.

I use a program called Photo Scan Standard by www.agisoft.com Basically you take photo's of an Object from many different view points and you load those photo's into Photo Scan. It then processes them and converts them into a 3D model.
It's pretty scary really how it works. It's like something right out of a Sci-Fi movie.

Yes, had some fun with that program myself for a while. Highly recommended. It's what finally pushed me to get more serious about photogrammetry and to buy AgiSoft Photo Scan.
Anyone who loves 3D models should certainly try 123D Catch for free. It's on Android and iOS too and it's loads of fun.
