In particular, this demo of Kurt Ader's KApro EXs Sample Library Bundle Vol. 2 “Symphonic Dreams Complete 4” really sold me on the authenticity of the Kronos' strings capabilities. I think the Kronos strings' sound quality finally approaches that of computer-based software rigs. However I cannot seem to find these libraries available for sale. Are they discontinued? What other strings and orchestral libraries are comparable?

No they are not discontinued, they are available in the Korg online store. Here is the complete library, browse the store, there are several bundles available depending of what you want:
http://shop.korg.com/Kronos/Promo-KApro2 There is also the “Epic Composer” series from KAPro, also several bundles available. |

It should be mentioned that the official Korg Kronos libraries are not like many sample libraries for sale. They are only available for the Kronos.
You can download them to your Kronos and give them a free try, where the only limitation is that the sound will slowly fade in and out for a few seconds. Once you purchase the library, you are given an authorization key and that will unlock it on your Kronos and will then sound normally without the slow fading in and out.
The authorization key is generated from the hardware of the Kronos, which "ties" that library to that specific Kronos. This means that even if you buy another Kronos, you cannot put that authorized library from your old Kronos to the new Kronos. You will need to purchase a separate authorization key for that (same) library for each additional Kronos.
This authorization process only applies to the libraries sold online at the Korg site. There are still certain 3rd party libraries available that do not adhere to this strict authorization policy. Some examples are Antony Sharmann's WavesArt, K-Sounds Organimation, and Bolder Sounds. |

Oh, thanks, xsequor699! I had to click on "learn more" to see the "add to cart" option. I found the Symphonic Dreams strings and orchestra libraries, but there are so many KApro libraries from which to choose!

Thanks, psionic311, for your further explanation. Yes, I just read that the license is unit-specific and cannot be used on a second Kronos. Good to know that you're able to demo the libraries, since there seems to be a lot of variations available. Is there a thread here which rates or reviews the various string libraries? |
