A mini series on MOD-7. I might add a video today going over the looping envelopes.

Thank you very much. It's well done, really.
About another engine, did you do a tuto on STR-1 (very difficult to find one) ?

I would eventually like to explore STR-1 in-depth. Had an idea for a series where I could try to replicate a single note of a real guitar with STR-1 to see just how close I can get. I'm not sure if and when I'll start that as I'd like to focus more on the KARMA software, but we'll see.

Thanks much for these! I like your scientific approach, and that was a nice tip in the wavefolder mode about hearing only the sound of the wave table applied.

I would definitely be interested in seeing something on the looping envelopes. I have used those in FM8, and I actually didn’t realize they were there in the MOD-7. It’s quite a synth to get your head around - there’s SO MUCH to it!

Do you typically use the PC editor vs. direct editing on the Kronos or is that more for the videos? I have thought a little about how I might make a Kronos video and getting a camera on it’s LCD display seems like it would be awkward.

Whoops I made a mistake. The only reason the sound was gating off like that was because oscillator one's own envelope wasn't set to get triggered by the step sequencer.

It's for the videos. I'm usually running KARMA while programming on my own. You can't really run the editor whether you're on mac or pc while you have KARMA and a DAW going... the Kronos will start getting super confused and bug out on mac, and pc can't handle all the MIDI ports.

Really enjoying this series. Not sure if you have any more planned but I'd surely watch them. Especially like the last one since it started getting a little more in depth into some of the more interesting components of the synth like the AMS mixer and step seq.

Yeah, the +25 AMS intensity - I can't make much sense of that mathematically, but in the end I guess you have to use your ears.

Haven't delved into this fully yet, but I wanted to thank you in advance for your contribution here. The Kronos has a lot of great tech, but the FM engine and esp compatibility with the DX series is one of its vastly underrated capabilities.

Charles,

Great stuff! As a subtractive synth guy, I’ve neglected mod-7 although loved some of the presets. This is making me spend time rethinking fm.

You’ve a great easy style too.

Thank you IAA, Niven8, psionic331 and Lightbringer. The positive feedback is super motivating.

Lightbringer, if I do another video on MOD-7 it'll be more focused on the different wavetables and perhaps distortion in general. Wouldn't be anytime soon though.

Just did what the manual told me for that one.

But yeah the +25 DOES make sense mathematically. When the modulation intensity is +48 semitones, then Step SEQ values of 25, 50, 75, and 100 will understandably give you +1, +2, +3 and +4 octaves respectively.

The Step SEQ values are a percentage of the total modulation intensity.

With the above example, 25 means 25% of 48 semitones. Mathematically that's 48/4 which equals 12[semitones]... Does that make sense so far?

Thus a value of 4 with the intensity at +25 must be 4% of the range of 25 semitones which equals 25/25 or 1[semitone]. Which is why increments of 4 are equal to +1 semitone.
