Hi all, I've got a problem with an M1 and I wonder if someone can explain it.
I'm living in Korea, and years ago a buddy left me a Korg M1 that he got in Japan. Before he left, we first played it by using a power converter to convert the 110V (Japan) to 220V (Korea).
I kept this M1 a long time with no use, kept it in a soft case, and only today dug it back out because I wanted to learn more about it and perhaps use it seriously. I no longer have that power converter, my buddy kept it. Rather I only have one of those little "universal adapter" wall plug-ins. I took a chance with it, and noticed that on start-up I just got a well-lit, but completely blanked out screen. It didn't start up, it just had that blank screen.
After a few more tries it did start up, but the sounds were a bit wonky. Somehow, over a few minutes they it "warmed up" somehow and the sounds got better.
I turned if off and came back later, and had the same blank screen as before. Again, after a few tries it started up again and worked fine, as far as I can tell.
I came back a third time, later, and now I ONLY get that blank screen. It won't start up at all. It's a well-lit screen, and I can hear a distinct signal noise. But it just doesn't start the program.
I'm afraid to try again. I'm worried my little adapter didn't have enough surge protection or something, and that I've stupidly fried something in the M1. Is this what has happened?
It's really looking like I screwed it up. Because I was basically using a travel adapter. ::
Thanks for any insight or advice. |

Oh dear, you have messed up. Those little 'travel adaptors' are merely to plug cables with different headers into sockets they don't fit and won't change the voltage. You may be luck and have only fried a couple of capacitors at the power supply end, but it doesn't sound like it. Take it to an electronics repair guy of some description. Even if they don't work on synths they will be able to do a quick diagnosis on whether a psu replacement will beall that is required. Good Luck. _________________ Stuff I'm using: Umm right now, well there's a Volca Drum, a Micro Freak, an ADX-1, a Pulse, a Blofeld, a UNO Drum, KeyStep/Beatstep Pro/Keystep Pro (one of each), a Circuit, a LiveTrak L-12 and this nonsense: The Brief-case as it was about a bit over a year ago (the the complete ridiculous GAS monster collection here)and here |
