|

Hi guys,
I haven't been playing my Pa3x much and have been offered PA900+cash for it. Based on my needs, PA900 would be sufficient so I am seriously considering.
There is only one problem...
Recently I purchased a professional set for PA3x which comes with compressed multi-samples, not sure if all of them are compressed or only some. Also, the set is encoded (came on a USB which needs to be plugged-in when using the set).
My understanding is that I should decompress all the user instruments/drums assigned to a style and then they should work with PA900.
Have a few questions ..
1. How do I know if a multisample is compressed or not?
2. Does it matter if I am working on a drumset or an instrument when doing decompression?
3. Does the fact that the set is on a locked USB key affect the decompression process?
3. Any other tips when trying to decompress PA3x files and create a smaller PA900 set?
Thank you!

Hello!
Unfortunately you can't decompress usb locked resources so it is not possible to use the set if it is compressed..
You can check if samples are compressed in the sample editing menu (SOUND->RECORD).
In the list with all the samples , the compressed ones have an * at the end of their name..
Of course you can't select the samples as they are locked... |

Thank you musiccankill!
I checked and couldn’t find any sample with a “*” appended to its name.
Also, the size of the set is around 240mb, which would still fit the expended memory without compression.
I guess I’ll confirm once the Pa900 arrives
Thanks,

Hello denistu007! Why are you changing PA3x with PA 900? PA3x is MUCH MUCH better keyboard than plastic China product PA 900! _________________ "Music is a sublime revelation of all wisdom and philosophy." Ludwig Van Beethoven

This info was posted some time back but I cant remember who posted it.
I copied the text in case I needed it, and I quote:
"Actually pa300/600/900/3xle can decompress the pa3x sounds but it is not written in the manual!
You have to load the sound, go to SOUND->Press RECORD->Press MENU->Select MULTISAMPLES->Select the compressed multisample->Export it->Delete the compressed multisample->Import the previously exported multisample->Exit record menu->Update the sound to use the imported multisample which is now not compressed and will play like a charm (but it will ofcourse take double the space as it is not compressed anymore).
This works on pa900/3xle out of the box as they have sample editing menu enabled. On pa300/600 although it works, its not possible to do it as sample editing is disabled."
Hope this makes some sense and also hope it is correct. _________________ Free SoundFonts: https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/

Ritchie,
I agree, PA3x is a better keyboard. Better built, more functionalities, better interface for live setting etc ..
But in my case, I've recently purchased a Korg Kronos which has a far superior sound than any arranger out there. Since then I've been using my Pa3x mainly for the rhythm section. I had a chance to compare both PA900 and PA3x in a live setting, on a regular PA, and for me they sound very close, if not the same.
On the other hand, PA900 is much lighter which represents a significant advantage for me when carrying two keyboards.
Cheers,
D. |

Rouben,
Thanks for the info. I do know about this.
But unfortunately as I suspected, this feature is not available when a SET is locked. More specifically, you can not EXPORT locked multi-samples.
Cheers,
