hi,got the ESX2 sampler and using it for loops.

ive noticed that some of my parts are dipping out at some points,is this note stealing or something else?

All these parts are 1 2 or 4 bar loops and just triggered by the first note of the bar.

So for example, pattern has 6 loops playing but when i add the 7th part which is a single shot sample placed as a note at the 14th beat of the last bar the other loop before it cuts out at that point!!!!

Any ideas?

This is a 16 part sequencer and im only using in essence 1 note for each part and only using 7

that's one of the biggest drawbacks! fx eat up voices too. so 24 note polyphony does not always equal 24 notes at the same time!

Hi pedro666, yep just to confim that what you're describing above, definitely sounds like the old note-stealing (NS) problem with the ESX2 (that I, too, know all too well... and with so few parts used too!). NS severely limits our ability to make the best use of what it should be - a potentially great sampler at a reasonable price.

I've found, as I'm sure you have, that it's often bad e.g., just when using even 2 or 3 stereo voices with the same number of mono voices - and you'd think (before buying it) that there's no way you're going to find NS with so little of its polyphony/available parts being used. But there you go :/

Anyway, if Korg ever release another Electribe (and here's hoping they do soon!), they must by now realise that they'll need to provide a much better sampler (with far more oomph to handle a multitude of stereo samples) than the current far too limited one - much as it is 'currently' unbeaten, by any other manufacturer, in its price range. It could be so much better, in so many ways, and then should sell even more units, which would be a winner for everyone. Yep, here's hoping...

But for now, there's little we can do about it alas, except try to limit use of its effects, parts and stereo samples etc. etc or as another member shrewdly suggested, perhaps try consolidating and resampling the most troublesome stereo samples, which you feel you can't leave out.

Re "get an ipad" nah, ya see (& here's your 'custard pie') some of us have a lingering conscience about those overworked chinese factory workers, who killed themselves in desperation over their working conditions, and forever more won't touch any 'Apple' product with a bargepole. Not that they've learned from that experience to treat their workers much better since then - according to reports from January this very year by China Labor Watch & others!!! There's that and the fact that Steve Jobs was the man responsible for introducing the idea of portable music products with unchangeable batteries. Hate 'em with a passion.

You can set the crucial part priorities to high, so at least it will be something else that is stolen and not the main beat or lead.

I wish my Tempest has this function, only 6 voices to play with!

im using all mono samples.

for example, a pattern im working on now is as follow.

part 1-7 nothing
part 8-all notes on to allow audio input of roland tr9
part 9-uni-square osc playing long notes
part 10-vocal sample 2 bars long

no fx,only filter on osc

now,it will play fine and every now and then the bass or the tr9 input will cut out for a bar or so and then come back.

any ideas?

i cant belive its note stealing as im only using 3 notes at once.

i do have pretty much all the sample memory used and lots of patterns, that the problem?

cheers guys

why? use 1 note on step 1 with long release.
Or turn audio-in always on (settings)
