Okay I have finally got everything setup and ready to go to sample my Alesis Fusion. A lot of people do not realize this but in the Edit settings when creating an initial Program within the Fusion instead of choosing an Osc you can actually choose the OSC Multisample.

So I am going to resample everything I can using the software I have here on my hackintosh Mac Pro I've built.

My question is this, besides drums and bass that should be sampled in mono 98% of the time should I sample pads and everything else in Stereo? I've always sampled in stereo but I am curious about this because I read different things.

Im also planning to sample my JV1080 I have with all the expansion boards I have. Yes I know others have done this but they are not that good IMHO.

Its going to take some time to do this to please bare with me but I will release them once I get them done or at least a Bank.

I think it's difficult to give a definitive answer, because everybody's taste is different.

For myself, I think I would sample in stereo where the unique character of the patch depends on something specifically stereophonic in the patch itself. For example, a patch where - say - a piano is more left-sided, and a voice more right-sided, and the two blend in a particular way.

There are many patches, however, where that isn't the case and a large part of their character is simply down to effects that could easily (and more profitably, since the K's effects are more powerful than the Fusion's) be added later on the Kronos. I would probably do those in mono.

Best of luck with your project!

I've sampled a few pads from Omnisphere and tried both stereo and mono.

Using the mono sample I can run it through the Pitch shift mod where it routes the signal "straight" to the left channel and detuned through the right. This creates a very convincing stereo effect.

However, when compared directly with the stereo version it's still a compromise. The degree is dependent on the source material.

Remember the mono samples use less polyphony so if you can use them that way you have that benefit. Helps when stacking sounds where the blending tends to diminish the subtlety of the individual stereo sound.

You can use several Kronos effects to simulate stereo on mono samples. I personally sample in stereo only when absolutely needed, for example for Wavestation/wavesequence-type evolving sounds and multisamples which pan L to R in complex ways.

The advantage of sampling in mono is you can use more multisamples with the Kronos memory. Creating near-undetectable long loops with stereo multisamples is also more challenging, but you can always use techniques like crossfading, etc. I personally really like the Kronos sampling mode and enjoy creating multisamples with it.
