XLR VersusTRS for Mics

Post by fjs714 »

Hi Fellas,
Our group uses an older yamaha powered mixer (EVX something?) There are 5 mic inputs; each having inputs for TRS and XLR. These guys use the TRS inputs. I tell them that XLR is better for the mics because of less feedback. (Which we get when we raise the volume.)
Am I correct?
Thanks Frank

TRS and XLR are basically the same, from an electronics point of view, and shouldn't make a difference to the amount of feedback.

If you are having a performance difference maybe the members in your group are using cables with TS jacks instead of TRS? Both will work fine if they are using the combo input, but with TS it would be an unbalanced connection thus potentially different reaction to XLR/TRS.
