I don’t know what’s worse, Mini keys (korg) or mod wheels in that awkward place _________________ World needs Nikola Tesla’s technologies |

...for me, mini keys are MUCH worse, and I like wheels above the keyboard like this - the instrument is several inches shorter, and lighter, easier to move, it takes up less space in the music room, in the car, on the stand, etc...

nice table...
Shows its half a Montage
But has all the sounds and arps on board..
Is much lighter.. and has everything one would need for playing with others.
The only thing which might proove a dissapointment is the keybed..
I in general don't like the flimsy Yamaha synth keybeds in their lower models. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

You will get used to it very fast...
I love for example how Nord did it on the Nord stage..
Much better then on my Kronos..
on an 88 key, having the stick to the side is just to far a reach..
Advantage, it makes the formfactor very small..
I guess it will be extremely light to..
Mini keys are an instant killer for me.. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

Thanks for catching this typo! The hazards of "copy and modify..."

I think they ran into a space/weight issue. The MO products are intended to be lightweight. With the TFT, Yamaha may have had to increase the physical front-to-back depth to fit in the display. They pushed the PB/MOD wheels to the new space in back and trimmed the side-to-side width to reduce weight.
Not a defense of what they've done, but it's probably what their engineers were thinking. I use the MOX assignable buttons quite a lot and I'm not too happy with their placement on the MODX.
All the best -- pj _________________ Music technology blog: http://sandsoftwaresound.net |

Going by the preliminary specs I'd say it's more than half a Montage, a very cost-effective way to get a cut down Montage.
It comes even in a 76 keys version.
I wish it had at least a basic editable sequencer, but somehow Yamaha feels differently.
With Roland also poised to release new products (maybe even a flagship product) it's quite an interesting week.
So where's KORG (not counting the EK-50)? |
