|
|
Is their a step by step guidance regarding the downloading from the 4x to a flash drive. I realise there is a section in the manual, that covers this operation, however I'm still not clear on the detail. I presume that all my work in modifying styles etc. Is stored in the internal HD of the 4x. With all the time and effort over the last 2 years I,m concerned that I might "screw up" and lose it all. Additionally, if I did lose my work, is it a simple job to re boot the system?
Thanks Jim |

Hi Jim
No, your changes and creations are NOT stored on the internal disk drive so PLEASE backup everything as soon as you can.
In MEDIA mode (press "MEDIA" button):
Select the "Save" tab (bottom of screen)
Select "ALL"
Select "Save To" (bottom right)
Select the disk device - drop down menu (small down-arrow) just above the "Load" tab
Here you select:
...DISK to save on the internal 1GB SSD
...HD to save to your hard drive (if you have one)
...SD to save to your SD card (if you installed one)
...USB-F if you inserted a USB flash drive in the front port
...USB-R if you inserted a USB flash drive in the rear port
Select "NewSet"
Enter a SET name by pressing the "T" next to "NEWNAME"
Enter the name for your new set and select "OK"
Select "OK" to save all components
Select "Yes" to answer "are you sure"
Your new set will be saved
Hope this helps
Let me know if you have any problems.
Cheers

... missed your second question...
If you do screw up you can simply go into MEDIA mode again and this time, "Load" your saved SET.
I rehearse with my band every week and after EVERY rehearsal I save a new set with the date as part of the set-name e.g. "MYbandyyyymmdd".
We make some changes nearly every week.
I also make sure that this is performed on my HD and also external USB. I would hate to have to build all my set-lists and SONGBOOK for scratch if ever I had a disaster!!!
All the best

Hello Pete,
Following the question from Jim and your answer, I have the following question.
I regularly back up via MEDIA> UTILITY> Full Resource Backup.
Is this the same as you describe in your answer to Jim ?
Kind regards from The Netherlands

Excellent Pete, thank you so much. You should have written the Manual.
Do you ever need to back up the Operating System?
Finally, if there is a Style from the Forum members that I like, is transferring that to my 4x a relatively simple matter?
Regards,
Jim MacKenzie |

Hey Ben
Nothing at all wrong with doing that BUT you cannot load individual STYLEs/SOUNDS/KEYBOARD-SETs etc... from that backup whereas you can if you use the MEDIA>>Save
If you modify factory data then a full resources backup will include that - but a MEDIA>>Save can also do it.
The main issue for me would be not being able load individual data or perhaps just one bank.
Korg PA4X User Manual wrote: | Backing up the musical resources
You can backup the internal data (musical resources and settings) to a storage
device. Backup should only be used for archiving purpose, since you will
not be able to load individual data from a backup archive. To save data that
has to remain accessible with the normal Media > Load operations, for example
to load User data after updating the musical resources, use the Media>Save operations instead.
This function only backs up the internal memory, and not the internal or
external drives. It will back up Styles, Keyboard Sets, Sounds, Pads, Voice
Presets, the Global. It will not back up the MIDI and MP3 Songs contained
in the internal or external drives. Also, it will not back up the Direct banks,
already residing in internal or external drives. To back up these data, please
make a backup of the internal or external drives by connecting them to a PC. |
Cheers

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but its only the Pa4X that has a HD for saving data like this ? -The Pa4X-61 entirely relies on data from USB flash drives ? |

Correct
PA4X-76 has builtin HDD
PA4X-61 has no HDD but can be installed as an option
Both have 1GB SSD
Both can have an SD card installed
Both can use an external USB drive (doesn't have to be flash - can be any USB connected drive)
Cheers

Hi Pete,
Thank you very much for your clear explanation.
I now understand the difference.
Kind regards

Hi Pete,
I have another question.
If I use Media> Save, will all internal Songbooks be saved or only the Songbook that is currently active ?
Kind regards

Hey Ben
There are 2 SONGBOOK databases to consider:-
One is internal and one is in your DIRECT set (only if you have one selected).
On the PA4X when you MEDIA>>Save ALL your entire internal SONGBOOK database is saved to disk/USB
Hope this answers your question - let me know if not...

Hi Pete,
I am always very careful when an update arrives and I'm afraid that I can lose something.
My question is:
If I use the Media <Save <All, are all setlists also saved ?

Ben, will let Pete answer that in more detail (or correct me), but my understanding is that setlists are actually held as part of your Songbook setup. So I think the answer is 'yes' if you only use the internal Songbook and 'no' if you use a Direct Songbook.

Pete, I think I am understanding the media management now. It was a bit of a shock when I first discovered that 'Save All' doesn't actually save everything. In my case, my midis, MP3's, etc are stored in a folder on the KORG Disk and I initially assumed they would be included as part of Save All. A quick inspection of the filesize confirmed they aren't.
In my case, I only use a combined Direct Songbook (I don't use the internal Songbook), so am I correct in assuming that the only time I need to do a Save All backup is if I change any User data or after an OS update?
Thanks Pete, it is a tiresome but important subject, not as much as fun as making music. _________________ Korg Pa4X (OS NEXT 3.1.0)
