I just purchase my Kronos. Wow do I love it so but steep learning curve. I would like to plug my iPad audio into the Kronos so I can hear both through the head phone jack. Is this possible or do I need an external mixer?

It is possible to plug iPad into the USB-B port of Kronos and all will work as you need.
But you need a USB adaptor for your iPad cable.
USB camera adaptor for iPad is what i use.

Kronos can do Midi and audio at the same time on the USB-B cable.

Last I knew. iPad had a headphone out. Route that stereo audio to Kronos audio inputs

The ipad does have an audio out jack. I pluged this into audio in on the Kronos but couldn't hear sound passed to headphone jack. I could see the meter moving on the setup screen but no pass through.

Go to your quick start manual and review the Analog ' audio ' inputs section.

there is a switch for mic and line.
My guess is that the iPad audio out is a 'line out'.
Keep your volume low so you don't blast.

There are also small knobs for ' level ' in back of Kronos.

Your level for the knob could be at 0 or 1, whatever the lowest.

Carefully move the level up to get some audio sound out.

Make sure you don't blast
your audio in , at all the various volume levels .

Using audio in is a common question. You should be able to google the forum for more detail plus see a YouTube for exact steps.

Good luck !

GLOBAL -- AUDIO -- Bus Select should be assigned to "L/R." I use the Lightning to USB camera adapter, myself.

If you are going to go the iPad headphone line out route, then you should take the time to follow the input setup options for kronos.

https://youtu.be/gaRY7SvVTZU

That ^^^^^^^ is a Krog youtube channel video manual for audio Sampling and audio recording setup.
Shows the details of setting up inputs on kronos.
With video you can pause and rewind to be sure you follow the relevant steps correctly.

The reason i go with USB route, is that it is two way and multi function all on one line. Kronos sound can go to iPad and iPad sound can go to Kronos. Same with midi signal on the same USB line.
It is good advice to get the USB cable option.
Less hassle with no need to adjust the knobs on the back of kronos, and that leaves the inputs free for things like microphones or guitars that cannot plug into iPad.

I have USB line from iPad to kronos, the headphone line from iPad and split to both inputs of kronos, and i also have a mixer.
Even better advice is to have all three options. The mixer lets me plug more than two channels of mics and guitars, mix them and then run the mix into Kronos as stereo. And still have iPad audio over USB.
I do this only when i get into a casual live music group sit-in and the group wants to go through kronos for effects and balance with the Keyboard sounds.
Or even to record the performance so we can review/hear ourselves after the show.
Not the best for professional shows but you could make it work with a very small band and the right mixer & mixing-skills.
