hello Kronos-ville
I've been asked to sub in a Who tribute band on a semi-regular basis. Yeah me.
Thus, I'm needing to do some Kronos programing for some of the songs.
yes, I am aware there are a few factory patches, those aren't too bad, but need tweaking. Such as the baba o'riley one. Not close enough, to my ears.
If anyone has made their own patches and/or combis for any of the following songs, i'd be VERY APPRECIATIVE if you could share them with me.
songs I am particularly interested (these are the iconic ones, naturally).
Who are You (the phat bass)
Bargain (the synth lead)
Baba O'Riley (everything)
Eminence Front (everything)
Won't Get Fooled Again (the organ with vibrato, natch)
Love Reign Over Me (I think I can get this one easy enough with my own combi)
Going Mobile (I think I got that one, but not sure if the guitar or keys play the splattering solo part)
that Pete Townsend, quite the renaissance man, no? _________________ Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!

well, I've been able to spend some quality time with the Kronos this weekend, and I am pleased to say that the factory/expansion patches were a good start, with a little tweaking they sound good enough for me now. And I was able to pull together my own combi for Love Reign over Me. I just now need to find a synth sound (or build one) for Bargain, and I'll be completely in business.
I think I have Busch for many of these, and Enigmahack for Eminence Front. _________________ Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!

just an update.
Got a call this week from the band leader and they want me to sub for the regular keyboard player on April 8. I'm very excited.
I think they are not totally thrilled with the current keys player, and who knows (no pun intended) this might turn into a regular thing for me.
here's a live demo of the band, it's called Who'se Next

Well, it's a good job and good to hear that !
Unfortunately, we don't hear the very begining of the song, when the synth is alone.
Could you place your patch on Soundcloud for example. That way we could listen to your tweak.
Oh, yeah, it's ok. Found it there : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX2svCwiKxE
Your patch is very near from source.
But what I saw on this video ? What, you don't play on Kronos on stage !!!!
(It's a joke of course) |

The video is not of me playing with the band.
The video has the regular keyboard player.
I am going to be subbing for the regular keyboard player on April 8.
If I get video of that, I'll for sure post it.
Had one and only rehearsal last night before the April 8 gig, and everything worked well. My biggest concern was Eminence Front, and it turns out they play to a backing track on that song (the only song they use a backing track, everything else is played live). It's a good thing, because I think only Pete can sequence that song. _________________ Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!

just to end out this thread.
The gig on April 8 was, in a word, EPIC.
I felt like I was ready, and the playing went tremendous. Crowd at the bar was incredibly enthusiastic, and band sounded great. I hope to get another shot as a sub sometime soon. _________________ Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!

Another update:
After a horrible Cinco de Mayo gig where the incumbent keys player played way too loud, and wouldn't turn down when asked, the incumbent keys player was fired (guitar player said he would not play with him anymore, and you need Pete much more than any keys player).
As a result, I am now the full-time keys player for this Who Tribute Band. Lots of gigs on the schedule, some of which I can't do for various reasons, so I am now looking for a sub.
Have somebody in mind, who also plays a Kronos, which will make sharing my tweaked programs and combis very easy. Just hope he's not "too good" and gets me fired too. I don't play too loud, at least I have that going for me. _________________ Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!

ok, here's the video evidence. Everyone loves the sounds coming out of my Kronos.

Sounds great "Hold". I know your post is over a year old but I hope you still have the gig. I'd love a gig like that being a big "Who" fan myself.
Just thought I'd share this.
I purchased a Lowrey TLO organ and sampled the $%^&* out of it. Then loaded it into Reason. I didn't have a Kronos at the time unfortunately. But I'm going to load them into the Kronos eventually. And share with whomever (whoever?) would like.
Anyways for now, here's the adventure...
