Does anyone know why some midi format 0 styles are unsuitable for conversion by the PA4X style bot ?? _________________ PA4X V1.2, KROME, JUNO GI

If using a SMF0 (Standard Midi File Format 0) with properties like you can find as screenshot of a testfile (Manual page 300), there will be no reason not to be suitable for conversion. _________________ kind regards

I have tested some midis for conversion and found that this CreatorBot has his rules for creating styles - it will not ask anything from You. It makes a style by himself rules. If there souce midifile is a coplete song it can find and make all style parts. But if not, you will see that message. You must use the correct midi song. This will be happend when you wanna convert some midi demo files or Yamaha style files (not complete midifiles). Finally - the result will be as good as the resource file is. _________________ Korg PA1000. |

MIDIs are totally unpredictable in terms of design - it all depends on how they were created - all very subjective.
I have had a lot of success but mostly with good quality MIDIs like Tune1000 and ChartBusters. Some random MIDIs however were hopeless - they played OK but did not convert well on the PA4X. So it all depends on how they are created and if the bot can figure out intro, ending, bass, drum, and other accompaniment tracks. e.g. 10 people could write a MIDI for the same song - all could play perfectly in a MIDI player or keyboard but when you look deeper into their design, they can all be very different in the way the tracks and MIDI messages etc are designed.
Cheers

I fully agree to Pete and want to add a few lines :
If you use a MIDI "as it is" the results could be very disappointing.
Before trying to convert it to style it´s very useful :
- to delete tracks that are not needed ( melody, 2nd voice etc )
- to move the tracks to the corresponding PA4X tracks ( so Drums to CH10, bass to 9 etc... )
If there are more than the 8 tracks from CH09 - 16 the "chance" to get a bad style is much higher than as if there are only theese 8 tracks _________________ Greetings from East-Frisia, Germany

Whether you IMPORT an SMF separated by markers (Pa1000-Manual Page 296) or use StyleCreatorBOT (302) - the intended result in both cases is to get a style from an SMF.
With StyleCreatorBot the result is unpredictable and may vary depending on the source song, whereas Style Tracks and MIDI Channels are matched and prepared correctly for importing SMF to Style, the resultat mostly is much better - non-matching Tracks/Midi channels are ignored during the import procedure.
If StyleCreatorBot absolutely can not find any matching properties in a SMF, it's not surprising if no style can be generated from it and get that message. _________________ kind regards
