Aha!!! The one important piece of information NOT in the manual.
This really confused me when I first had my PA4X... the manual refers to them but then ALSO uses the term "Sound Sets" - very confusing - they tell you how to select them and edit them but NOT what they are Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad !!!!

Well the easy short answer is "everything related to UPPER1-3 and LOWER sounds" like volumes, pan, mute, unmute, sound FX etc......
No STYLE data is included so all ACCs etc remain the same when changing keyboard sets.

Keyboard set is designed as a method to change just your sounds (UPPER & LOWER) whilst playing a style. The 4 STS's are simply keyboard sets saved with a style.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Your entire keyboard set up (obviously except global settings) so a SONGBOOK entry is the full registration of your keyboard.
Korg have really done this well in the PA4X.

Songbook is one of the most strongest features of the Pa series. It stores everything including:
- All sound editing in the style
- different sound assignments in a style
- Full effect setups for A and B and also the Insert effects
- Volume levels
- keyboard sets (including their effect programming)
- all style elements changes
- Pad changes
- Chord Sequence
- and much more

So how can you use this?
Let's say you want to modify a style drastically, you can change the drum set of the style, you can even change one element in the drum set like for instance a different Kick drum. You can change the bass, and the accompany sounds. Also the effect levels and EQ settings for the style sounds can be changed. Furthermore you can select different Pad Patterns and assign effects to them. If you do these kind of things the style will sound really different.

Then you can add your upper and lower sounds for every keyboard set including additional effect programming.

For instance in my Hotel California Song setup i can change the complete effect setup to a High Gain Distortion guitar just by selecting one of the keyboardd sets.

Also all sound edits like ADSR, Cutoff and Resonace (including your sound edits for the Style elements) are stored in the song setup.

So when you do all these kind of things you can use a style in so many different ways by just selecting a song. The original style is still the same, but the song setup changes everything by just selecting that song.

It's incredible that all these edits are available in the song setup. I use it all the time

You have to edit your style then store it as a songbook entry ?

Basically, yes

As Qui says, you set up your keyboard with everything you want for a particular song (you don't have to overwrite styles) and then save as a SONGBOOK entry.
That entry is a full "registration" of your settings for a song.

SONGBOOK is fantastic and is also the main centre of the PA4X design.

If for example youve changed the drum kit for a style within a songbook entry and you decide you want to change the bass guitar, do you recall the songbook entry. Change the bass guitar sound and overite the exisring song book entry with the edited style ?

Yes, or create a new SONGBOOK entry if you wish to keep them both.

I have SONGBOOK entires using the same style but with many different sounds and settings (the original style remains unchanged)
