Hi all

I’ve just pulled the trigger on a used Kronos 2 88.
I will be selling my 61 key Kronos 2.
I need the extra weighted keys ! I tried one in a shop and was instantly sold. I have found that I have much more control over a wide range of sounds than on the 61key, which even after a number of years, I can’t get on with.

I’ve been working out more ! Laughing

Hopefully, it’ll be with me on Thursday Very Happy

Yessir. Good move on the 88 !

I can also see having 2 K2's. Assuming cash flow is not king

I’ll have to sell one of my other boards, which would give me less diversity. Mmmmmmm...... it’s a thought .....

Impressive rig, a definite " best of "

My requirements are to preserve my originals in SNG format, long term, thus the need
for a K for a another decade or 2.

NAMM 2019 products might be a factor in your planning. I wait for 1/31 to make any new plans. I like Rolands use of the Cloud.

The only thing better than 1 Kronos is 2 Kronos

Excellent !

I am very curious of the degree of 'operating room' in your new K2.
Plus the placement of a 2nd SATA, in terms of ease.

Installing a 2nd SSD in my original K was not specifically tight quarters.

No pressure, just something to keep in mind

Oh dear ! It certainly wasn’t an easy job for me! I installed the SSD but I couldn’t lift the keybed sufficiently to connect the SATA cable, so I abandoned the task and took the drive back out. The SATA connector is well hidden under the keybed.

I naïvely assumed Korg would leave more room because it is a bigger keyboard. Rolling Eyes

It certainly was not as straightforward as on my K2 61

I wonder if there is something else I need to undo to lift the keybed to get to the sata connectior Question

thats what I recalled- folks had to shift the keybed due to the 2nd SATA

So Korg made it difficult for a 2nd SSD on the K2. A k2 owner has to risk invalidating a warranty for what should be a simple task- the 2nd SSD.

Suggest waiting a few days to see what K2 owners did

Watch this. You need to basically lift the keyboard by unscrewing it from the front bar. Make sure to use a right angled Sata cable, I would get a 70cm + cable to make routing the cable easier.

Unless you have four hands, it is indeed best to unscrew the action from the front assembly and even remove the "fender/bumper" for more space. The ASRock MB second SATA connector is a bit farther and under the K2 keys, so a right angle terminated cable is needed as already mentioned. Make sure to tie the cable far from the heat sinks and electrically "noisy" components, so basically it should go the very same route/angles as the factory SATA cable.

Thankyou KK and Purgatory. I did try with the right angled SATA connector

I'll watch the video and report back after my second attempt......

Well ... I tried again.

I’ve discovered it’s not the keybed that’s in the way. I was able to lift it after undoing some screws, but there is a metal plate in the way under the keybed.

The SATA connector is under this plate. I am unable to get the right angle SATA cable underneath because the plate is very low and I can’t get the connector underneath.

I think it may be wise for me to abandon the task and manage the disk space externally and internally.

I wanted to upload some images from my computer but can't figure out how to do this

Thankyou all for your contributions!
