It would make sense. It's a powerhouse of a machine, with a somewhat limited scope (no audio editing/recording). But it has the best of KORG's workstation sequencers. |

Say NO, there is not any plan for it. Korg will soon launch new mid rank keyboard, but not Krome concept anymore because Krome sale wasnt good as expectation. |

If they were to, what form would it take?
Elsewhere there was idle speculation about a workstation that was basically Gadget, with hardware controls. I think that that would make a lot of sense, on many grounds:
First, KORG already has the code. Some updates may be necessary, but the foundation is there. It has already been ported to different architectures, so we know that it's feasible.
Second, it's a visible advance on the current rompler-only Krome structure.
Third, the technology is there to make a nice touchscreen that is a clear advance on the current Krome touchscreen.
Fourth, the physical hardware is something with which KORG is intimately familiar, so there's no production issue there.
Alternatively, we could read the tea leaves around Krome update 1.0.4 and guess that they are prepping the same engine in a new shell, which would quite honestly be typical for KORG - perhaps with slightly higher voice counts, and maybe with a return of audio recording (although I doubt it).
If we're lucky, they'll produce a new Kronos and their new Krome will come out at the same time, intending to rely on the Kronos replacement's halo effect to drive sales. |

Here's hoping they bring back all the good features that they dropped from Krome that existed in the Triton LE and TR 88.
They need something cheaper than Kronos but full featured, with a better sequencer, and bring back sampling, but modernized, with multi samples that users can create and assign per velocity, per key.
Also add a proper functional synth engine, something like the king korg. In 2019 someone shouldnt have to buy a flagship synth to get virtual analog and sampling in a mid market keyboard.

The idea of Gadget-in-a-workstation would pretty much give you all of that. Sampling? Check. Virtual synthesis models? Check. Sequencing? Check. Effects models? Check.
If they want to tart it up, they can add a few nicer gadgets, and of course slap in the biggest CPU and RAM that they can fit. |

The Krome has been discontinued selling on Amazon cheap. Definitely a sign of something taking it's place. Imo it's must be better than the Yamaha Modx or Korg is going to lose a lot of entree level consumers. That MODX is pretty powerful for the price. |

If this is what Korg has come up with to compete with the MoDX they have failed miserably. |

I'm keeping my Kross 2! One would expect that they had included features from the cheaper model, but sampling, usb audio, audio player, audio in are all missing yet.
The Kross 2 is the thing now. I expect they'll release the long awaited expansion libraries this month _________________ Korg Kross 2 61, Korg microStation, Korg monologue, Alesis Vortex wireless v1, CME Xkey 25, Peak FCB8N, JBL LSR305 monitors, Jackson DK2S, Washburn X series, Lag Tramontane, ENGL e530, TC electronic G-Major II, Rocktron Velocity 300, 2x12" Celestion V30s cabinet. |

Cheaper than MODX and sequencer included still no match for Yamaha. |

I just checked the specs on the Korg website. The PCM memory jumped from 3.8GB to a whopping 4GB!!!!!
Korg is really taking the piss aren't they.

I think so too.
Kross: shiny colours, a few new sounds and settings.
Krome: new colour, a few new sounds and settings.
Kronos: .... yup.
This is more embarrassing than heliotrope and mauve guitar tuners.
If it weren't for the pretty cool new volcas I'd think they'd just given up. |

it really does look like they have given up on the keyboards and are just concentrating on the toy volca "synths". |
