Desert Heat ( Hot as Hell)

https://soundcloud.com/user-898236994/desert-heatwav

Desert Heat is a metal rock song portraying adversity.
This is my instrumental original featuring guitars on the
Kronos.

Adversity takes many forms; extreme desert heat, impossible
cold weather, the unexpected, any challenge to our health
and survival.

Greg

Good stuff, Greg!

Pretty groovy track, and I like the arps in the middle and towards the end and that phasey filtered saw lead you use around 1:00 and 2:20 Smile

Thank you, Gunnar !

The Rez lead is from the tasty AL-1 engine.

Metal is a reach for me. I tried to capture the attitude.

Totally agree with Gunnar. You normally shy away from more energetic aggressive leads but in this track you definitely stepped out of your comfort zone. Great track!

Thank you, Sam ! Its true, I am selective on leads. It has to fit the tune. My chops are average at best.

Since I multi track and use various sound engines at once , I also hit polyphony limits. I had to limit my use of AL-1 on synth parts.

Bottom line, AL-1 is resource hungry. I had only part of the keyboard to work with, such as 24 -30 keys/notes.

Thank you, Fred ! Glad you enjoyed Desert Heat.

I have zero vocal talent. I have some rough lyrics on originals
and can envision vocals.

Finding a vocalist seems fantasy, at least
where I live. As I circulate, or network in my area, I still hope to
bump into a vocalist.

Here's my latest tune: https://soundcloud.com/gunnarsletta/beyond-the-edge

I've been writing this progressive rock stuff about this journey to Mars a while now, and this latest one is about the protagonist bordering on insanity from isolation, stress and homesickness.

Piano, organ, leads, orchestral stuff are all coming from the Kronos with the exception of one or two sounds from the MiniBrute2. I've switched to the Berlin piano and tweaked that a bit.

Great job Gunnar! It's such an interesting track. I loved the synth and guitar works in particular. You captured that mental madness mood very well by the way.

A great, ambitious epic, Gunnar, listened to it a few times.

I like the way your song is structured and how it builds momentum/tension.

I am jealous of your vocal Wink Its totally not easy to create a vocal with prog/metal type songs. Your instrumental skill is at a high level.

It sounds like you have a real drummer ? Do tell.

Thanks Sam and Greg, it is very much appreciated!

I believe that overdriven synth lead I use for large parts of this actually the primary reason that I need to replace my Kronos Joystick ... again... Laughing

Thanks for this comment, its both funny and very kind.. My vocals aren't the best, but I make due with what I got. I even started taking singing lessons a few months back to try to improve them and avoid some bad habits that I've picked up..

Besides, echo, reverb and distortion are my friends, so that helps Smile

Hehe, nope, but I changed my style a bit for this one so it is interesting that you noticed. EZDrummer comes with a lot of drum patterns recorded by professional drummers. As these sound really good, I had a look at the MIDI to compare with my own programming and they were generally a lot harder hitting (velocities in the 120+ range most of the time) and more off timingwise, so I adopted those patterns. I also mixed the hihats and overhead quite a bit lower than what I've done before, which I think is more in line with the genre. And finally, I ran the entire kit through a high-gain guitar amp sim and blended a few percent of that back in it. That helps to crush the cymbals and stuff bit, so it doesn't sound so clean.

2nd time today I have heard about EZDrummer, I will have to put some time into it.

Drums/bass are a always a priority for me. My use is simple. I double up kits and add FX for a thick sound. This might be a US pref, but many folks like a loud rhythm section.

Happy Wife Happy Life

https://soundcloud.com/user-898236994/happy-wife-happy-lifewav

My original instrumental portrays the wisdom of this expression and the winding road couples experience.

Happy Wife, Happy Life might be of some origin, since it resembles what might be found in a fortune cookie.

The instrumental might be defined as middle of the road/easy listening with a strong back beat. Its a tribute to all couples.

Greg

Everything Ship is a rock/techno instrumental.

https://soundcloud.com/user-898236994/everything-shipwav

Everything Ship is a term for the ultimate relationship.

My instrumental song portrays this never ending life experience that many dream of or already have.

For the perfect listening experience, stereo speakers or headphones are best.
Several Kronos instruments I used have strong stereo panning effects.

This is another cracking good song you've composed Mr.C
Well worth listening to several times just to savour the experience of your creative talent....yet again.

Thanks for sharing.

Best Wishes.
