SQ1 channel b is not playing in parallel when midi connected to Volca bass or keys. Works OK in zigzag or sequential, just not parallel.

Did I miss something in the manual?

As far as I can make out from the SQ1 "manual", midi out only uses one channel. It's a global parameter and the different channels cannot be set independently. Both volca and sq1 default to channel 1.

Hi,

In parallel mode, channel B = channel A + 1. You can configure the channel nr for A.
The volca will probably only be able to listen to one channel. At least this is so for the FM.

In zig zag mode, the sixteen steps are all sent over channel A.

Have fun

Hi. Yes, this seems to be the case. Channel b is always A + 1 whatever A is set to. If A is set to 16, then B is 1. Thus none of the parallel modes work for Volca - they are just 8 step sequences. This is a shame as only about half of the features of the SQ1 are available to Volca users. This isn't made clear in the promotional material. But too late now as I have bought the thing.

Yeah, I should have been more specific when I said B is 2. B is always one channel higher. In my opinion using MIDI is a waste. You lose a lot of functionality, like the slides. It's better designed for CV connections. Never tried little bits so I can't comment on that.

Check out this video, it covers things the manual doesn't, particularly the different sequence modes.

Well...
The parallel modes indicate they run in parallel. Doing this over MIDI means it will use 2 channels. Little number of synth are able to use 2 MIDI channel to respond to, except workstations.

Get another Volca and a MIDI through box and you can control both of them using 2x8step sequences Smile

You can also use the 16 step mode and deactivate/activate half of the steps on the fly (if the tempo is not too fast) to play 2 different patterns on one MIDI channels.

Have fun.
