I know I can back up each pattern to the SD card and then copy the SD card to my PC.
But is there a way to do this via the USB cable? It's inconvenient having to turn off the Electribe when I'm editing patterns and backing up frequently. |

Nope.
USB there is only for MIDI connection to a computer, with the appropriate driver.
Which is a pity from the beginning. _________________ My electribe2 lousy patterns and stuff | KORG gear: NTS-1, nanoKEY2, electribe2/2S, WS/SR, WS/EX (on storage) |

Sure, SysEx is an option on both TRS and USB MIDI.
But you need to do this "by hand" with a SysEx software manager or some kind of DAW custom panel, since there's no librarian for the electribe. Doable but not trivial.
As for SD-Card hot-swapping, manual states it's not recommended.
Quote: | 4. Insert and remove memory card
You can use a memory card to save (write) or load (read) a song for playback or to read data.
Never insert or remove the memory card with the system power turned ON. You may lose data on the system or in the memory card, or alternatively, you may damage the memory card. |
