|
|
Hi all,
I want to use my Korg D1 as a Midi controller for VSTs on my Macbook Pro 2012. When I plug the Korg D1 into the MacBook it shows up in the MIDI Studio Window but it does not get recognised as Korg D1 but as a generic device (see image in link).

The D1 fails to send any MIDI signal to the laptop and I wonder what I can do? I have tried different MIDI cables. I am sure the settings on the D1 are correct for its function as a MIDI keyboard.
Please help as I have never faced this problem before and am so close to selling my D1!
Thank you,

Which USB MIDI interface are you using between your Korg D1 and Macbook Pro?
The Korg D1 MIDI in/out uses 5-pin DIN connectors.
The 2012 Macbook Pro uses USB.
I've just purchased my Kong D1 and I'm using the Roland UM-ONE mk2 interface.
https://www.roland.com/products/um-one_mk2/
This was recommended by PianoManChuck in his Kong D1 Youtube review:

This works well for me with my Macbook Pro late-2011 running macOS Sierra. If you use the UM-ONE, you might need to download and install the correct driver from the Roland site. When you press the keys on the D1, the "IN" LED on the UM-ONE blinks to show the midi input from the 5-pin midi connector is working.
In theory, the driver might not be needed, so you can experiment with the two different options.

The UM-ONE appears in my macOS MIDI Studio and it appears in the options for Audio/MIDI in my Dexed VST which I'm using on the Mac.
Perhaps there are other MIDI interfaces that work well too, but I'm not sure which ones.

You dont mention that you have, so ensure you have installed the latest Korg USB MIDI driver. |

Hi, I'm not the original poster and my Korg D1 is already working with my macbook pro (as posted above), but I have some questions. I'm using a Roland UM-ONE mk2 USB MIDI interface with the Roland driver and the MIDI interface appears in my macOS Sierra MIDI setup.
Then I connect the Korg D1 5-pin MIDI out to the Roland UM-ONE interface and I can select the UM-ONE as the MIDI input in my DAW or software instrument. But I'm wondering if there are some extra features you get with the Korg USB MIDI driver.
There is no mention of the Korg USB MIDI driver in the D1 manual and there is no mention of the D1 on the Korg USB MIDI driver download page:
https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/driver/1/285/1357/
Do you use the Korg USB MIDI driver with the Kong D1 piano? What interface did you use? Did it work fine without the Korg driver and did you get some benefit when you used the Korg driver? |
