I'm considering buying an MS2000R and using it with Cubase on a laptop via a MIDI/USB interface. The Mod Sequencer is an interesting feature, and I'm starting to understand that it's a modulation controller for many functions, not just a standard analogue-style note sequencer. One review on YouTube made allusions to the sequencer not outputting gate data, which - as there's no CV/Gate connection on the device - mystified me.

However, I would like to be able to record sequences into Cubase so I can integrate them with other instruments. Is this possible?

Hi,

Disclaimer: I don't own a MS2K.

My feeling says after glancing through the manual: No, you can not record the Mod Sequencer. It is not a real step sequencer, that triggers a new note per step. It is a MODULATION sequencer. E.g. if you assign it to pitch in step mode and hold one key, it may sound like playing a melody, but in reality it plays only one note (sent over MIDI) of which the frequency/pitch is modulated by the sequencer. See the Mod Sequencer as a highly programmable LFO. LFO's neither don't output their value on MIDI.

That being said, when you tweak the sequencer in real time during performance, by turnining one of the knobs, it will output that change for recording on MIDI as a NRPN message.

Bye
