|

I have recorded my version of a well known MoTown cover song from 1966.
I acquired a Streaming license from HFA of NY for the song, that covers the US.
They will not cover outside US.
However, SoundCloud is in every ' territory' around the world, thus the cover would be available everywhere.
Thus I need to find a service that offers the purchase of a " Mechanical License ".
I am also trying a site called SoundDrop that might offer a non US License- awaiting a reply in a couple of days.
Anyone else solve this kind of copyright challenge ? Appreciate any advice.

I had a dreadful time here in the UK trying to licence a reworking the complete soundtrack to the movie "Operation Daybreak" (the original soundtrack was never released due to legal problems, by the time a compromise had been reached, the original tapes had degraded too much).
Sadly I gave up in the end as the legal side was far too complicated because the original music was never published as such i.e. there's nothing officially listed for the movie soundtrack to get a license for!
I may just release the tracks and deal with any fallout later. _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

I feel your frustration. The time investment on licensing of something that is intangible is out of proportion.
3 years ago I wanted to record/perform cover songs from a UK band. Popular in the 70's.
The publisher company that owned the distribution of band material had gone bankrupt. IOW, there was no there there. No other copyright filing. I corresponded with the band members for permission and heard nothing.
I decided to not continue that project. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Is this a specific issue with the Kronos? I’m sure I’m misunderstanding the issue, but sounds very intriguing. |
