Have just read in our national paper (Daily Mail 30.06.2020) that Korg and Roland have been fined a total of £5.5m for breaking competition law. Casio and Fender have been fined £3.7m and £4.5m respectively.
Our local dealer here in Brighton (GAK) was fined £278,945

This is not a good look at all . Everyone knows these products are over priced for what they are but to be exposed for price fixing is disgraceful.
And from the Guardian article it looks like Yamaha exposed them ! |

Well I guess that secures the jobs and salaries of the CMA
...and also NOT help the prices of future products.... !!!!! _________________ PA4X-76, Karma, WaveDrum GE, Fantom 8 EX

I would of thought Yamaha would of been the BIGGEST offender!
Of their prices are fixed and not discounted at the retailers. _________________ Pa5x, Yamaha Genos, ForeScore |

Kbrkr,
You couldn't make it up. I read on another Forum that Yamaha blew the whistle on Roland and Korg in return for immunity from prosecution.
I think we need to get confirmation on that though.

Similar report from the media but honestly, who in their right mind would ever trust the media?
Not suggesting that it's false though....

Yamaha ratted and cut a deal. Just like the Mafia..!
Kiss goodbye to the last brick and mortar stores. The margins are paper thin already. Pare them to the bone, only online retailers will be in business soon.
Kiss goodbye to trying one for free before you buy. Kiss goodbye to a knowledgeable sales clerk answering your questions. Kiss goodbye to comparing two or three models at the same time.
All this is the obvious endgame that started when manufacturers allowed online only retailers and basically destroyed the established brick and mortar system that had worked for centuries. The price we pay to save a few percent on the price is that we now have to make our decisions hands free, and most of the gains we make are lost in shipping costs back to the distribution center when what we bought sight unseen turns out to be obviously flawed once we got it in our hands.
But.... progress, right? |
