After a few weeks with the EK-50 I'm so happy with it. It's really a great arranger keyboard.

Besides sustain and volume, are there any additional functions you can control with pedals on the EK-50?
What does an expression pedal do?

Only sustain and volume control with the EK_50

An expression pedal, which some people mistakenly liken to a volume pedal, theoretically is a volume pedal with a shorter incremental stroke which gives more of a sudden WAH effect, in volume when depressed. Guitarists tend to favour this effect with their WAH-WAH pedals in particular.

So in ek 50 the expression option in settings for pedal it’s just a volume option but renamed ?

If you check out the Internet you will find that many guitar WAH pedals will work with keyboards Teo

So with this volume expression pedal you control all sounds ? I mean if a style it’s playing it controls this to ? Cause that’s inconvenient,or they think about it and control only the keybed

Hi Teo ... I tried 'expression' but notice it does not seem to change overall volume and simply voices, so i abandoned it .
I did mail support some time ago regarding this as i would prefer a 'global' setting personally or a choice at least.

I do think we could have greater function options for pedal...but again its an entry board, so i can expect much....

Hi Keith , change upper 1,2,3 and lower part volume at the same time, doesn’t change volume at drum percussion bass and other parts ,English ain’t my mother language so sometimes I don’t understand the full meaning of something like :” it does not seem to change overall volume and simply voices “ Confused

I meant - EVERYTHING does not change ....only the voices 1/2/3 and lower voices are changed. 'expression' is not for the volume of ALL sounds heard.

Hope that helps ....sorry.
I do forget ....not everybody understands English fully

Have you adjusted the Volume/Expression pedal parameters as described in the Appendix?

I'm not sure at the moment to keep my EK-50, caused by the many limitations.
Mainly I miss the "songbook" of my old PSR 620: 32 KBS with each 4 OTS.
At now I write down my notifications on paper, then calling the bank number...

@ Teo
Did you find a solution re your volume pedal?
If I keep my EK-50, I react a foot pedal from the seventies I build my organ myself. Better perhaps is this one:
https://www.thomann.de/de/boss_fv50h.htm (or ask mom google)
It works passiv by stereo pots, is placed between EK-50 outputs and external amplifier inputs. The output cable to the amplifier should not be as longer than approx. 1.5 meters because of loss of high frequencies.
The disadvantage of this solution: you controll the overall sound level of the EK.
Let's keep in mind: the EK-50 only is a incentive to by a PA...

back to the thread topic here -

I have asked korg if it is possible to make 'shift' a pedal function

For me this would be a real bonus for 'on the fly' I also own an i3 and it would be even more useful with that! the is EK and Xe all share the same OS so it would be useful as an option on all models IMHO

Will see if they offer it as it would be quite a simple function to offer as a pedal switch in place of a button switch
