|
|
Hi there,
I have recently bought a Volca FM and have updated to the latest software, but there has always been an issue with clicking noises. It sounds like the waveform is being retriggered every time I press a new note, and changing the attack/release does not seem to take the clicking out.
Not all patches are like this, but a lot of them are (at least the library in Dexed which I mostly use.) Is there a way I could avoid this or is there something about the design I should be aware of?
Lemme know what you think!
Thank you |

I've noticed this too, especially in mono or unison mode, and it indeed seems caused by retriggering when an earlier note hasn't finished yet. In these modes, the clicking is less obvious if the sound has a fast and strong attack. That effectively masks the clicks (e.g. both EGr 1 and EGL 1 set to 99 for all operators). Obviously that's less not very practical for evolving ambient pads.
The clicking effect is notably less often present in poly mode. Here, if a note is still playing, pressing another key results in its note being assigned to another of the three voices and the original isn't cut off. However, when all three voices are on, pressing a new key retriggers one of the voices in use, and you have that click again.. |

II think it's a strange quirk in the FM. I guess I will have to test for this on the next FM synth I buy
I just tried what you said with poly mode and maxing out the EG on every operator, it improved a lot for most patches - thank you for that. |
