Korg T3 - Power Supply Issue

Post by JohnA »

Hi All,

Advice gratefully received as to why the fuse is blowing in my T3.

Back-story: I recently picked up a cheap T3 that according to the seller had a few issues including a broken screen (LCD is clearly bleeding), stiff/non-working buttons and now wasn't booting up. I only needed it for the pitch-bend/mod mechanism to repair my own T3, but this one is in fantastic condition. For a gigging keyboard it's hardly got a scratch on it and the keybed is pristine. Seems such a shame to break it for parts (sacrilege).

The screen and the buttons are fairly easy to deal with, but the boot issue is way beyond my ability.

The fuse was quite obviously blown so I replaced it. When switched on, there was about half-a-second of a gentle fizzing noise followed by a soft pop which I take to be the fuse doing it's thing. It's now as black as the T3's case is...

The power supply board looks pretty good - apart from the fuse there are no blown-up or bulging components or burnt-out traces like the T2 I have repaired in the past.

So, fine Korg experts - is this likely to be a bad PSU (UK, 240v/50Hz) or something else? Any advice you could offer to help me track down the fault and cure it, preferably without replacing any rare boards, would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
JohnA.
