|
|
Greetings- I recently added a Minilogue XD to my studio and want to play different voices on it simultaneously with Ableton. I have different midi tracks set to external instrument and have changed the 'program' field in Notes but its not working.
Seems like a pretty basic ask for a DAW/ Synth and I'm wondering if anyone does this and how.
Thanks in advance! |

Sounds like you might need multiple XDs for that. I'm not sure what you mean really. The Minilogue XD is not multitimbral. It can only play one preset at a time on one midi channel. |

As RobustAmerican says, it's not a multitimbral instrument so you cannot do what you're describing unless you have more than one unit.
It's perfectly normal behaviour for a device such as the minilogue series, if you want to record simultaneous parts then possibly use another virtual synth initially and then replace with the minilogue once you're happy with your initial minilogue part, that's probably the way most of us would/do it in the same situation. |

Can it play more than one preset at a time on multiple midi channels? In other words, can I program it to receive midi from Ableton on different channels?
I'm not buying another one.. I just bought this one. |

The Minilogue XD is a mono-timbral instrument. This means that it can only send/receive on one MIDI channel at a time. To do multiple tracks using Minilogue sounds, you will need to track them separately as audio, or you will need multiple devices.
Since you already have the keyboarded version, you may consider getting at least one of the XD modules. I have both the keyboarded version AND a module of the XD and they serve me well.
I am not aware of many of these types of analog units being multi-timbral (well, at least not in this price range). This is normal for these types of synths. With only 4 voices of polyphony, I am not sure there would be enough polyphony to go around for a multi-timbral arrangement.
