The use of Karma to switch Timbres on and off without losing polyphony has been discussed for several years. It has been somewhat supplanted by Live Mute Mode, but there are still cases where it has value:
1) If you want to use the Realtime knobs on the control surface as part of your Combi
2) If you want to use a single button press to switch multiple Timbres in the combi on or off as a group.

I needed to implement this technique, and I found the details scattered over a number of threads. I consolidated the information into a single tutorial-style document, and wanted to share it with the forum.

The tutorial is available here.

Experts, please review this and make sure I haven't made any errors. It works for me, but that doesn't necessarily mean everything is correct.
Thanks!

I've read your tutorial, as far as i can see everything is correct. Great work!

The only thing i would like to add is that the live global mode is practically the same. But if you have for instance multiple timbres on channel 2 then this could be a good solution because you can enable or mute them with just one button.

Thanks for sharing this Smile

Excellent point Qui, I have uploaded a revision that clarifies the reasons why you might want to use this approach compared to Live Mute.

When you say "2) If you want a single button press to switch multiple combis on or off. " do you mean Timbres within a Combi?

I use this method exclusively for switching sounds. I find it much easier than using touchscreen for fast program/combs switching without cutoff of sound. I've been using this method since the M3.

Sounds like something I could put to good use. Thanks for the tip.

Hi,
what in case if I have more than 4 MIDI ch form my timbres?
How can I asign e.g. 7 scenes for each of them?

1 scene - ch. 1,2,3
2 scene - ch. 4,5
3 scene - ch. 5,6
4 scene - ch. 6,7
5 scene - ch. 7,8
6 scene - ch. 8,9 and so on...

Four Karma modules available in Kronos, with each Karma module managing one midi channel.
So, it’s limited to 4 midi channels through Karma on Kronos.

You can get a second Kronos or get the Karma software on computer.
That will multiply the number of Karma modules available to use.

Duplicate your Combi, changing the 4 KARMA output channels on the second combi.

Another possible way is converting your combi into sequence mode. As suggested in SeedyLee’s thread on sequencer tips, it may be possible to use RPPR and Sysex to record your manual changes to the output channels.

Simply record as you solo a group of tracks you want to sound together, and assign that “macro” to an RPPR key. Repeat for another solo group and assign that to a second RPPR key. And so on.

Hello,

Almost everything is possible using an external additional software, with Kronos vitamins for example I can change timbres on the fly between 2 scenes, I also suppose that I will surely be able to change the midi channel just need to see how the Karma would react in this The Kronos is very well interfaced with the outside world, many things are possible, often even on the fly, while playing.

I know people are afraid to use this ... an app on a web page linked to a Kronos.

In case I am available to implement additional functionalities in my software if they seem useful to me for some users.

You can go take a look here in case: https://www.youtube.com/user/superpno74
