Gordon Reid reviewed the Nautilus in the April issue of SOS.

The review is pretty straightforward: sounds great, lots of important features are missing. He gets particularly upset about aftertouch, and I agree that in a $2000 keyboard no AT is hard to accept.

He mentions that hard drives can be attached to the USB port to make up for the missing second drive bay. Is that something Kronos can do?

you can't stream samples thru the USB. At least, not on Kronos.

You can play with files, use USB as storage device.

I disagree with the statement " generous amount of polyphony ". Its fine if you are playing a program or 2. But if you try to stack 3 or more of the hungry sound engines, whoops, click pop, snik, polyphony problems.

The article did not go deep. Its info we already know, and features from Kronos.
IMO.

Thought I saw 'publish date ' Nov 9.
April issue ? it does sound familiar.

Nov. 9 is the product announcement, not the review.

The author does state that he left out content where it is the same as the Kronos and points the reader to the SOS Kronos reviews. He really is only covering the differences.

He claims the keyboard action is the same as Kronos, just without AT. If so, that's good news compared to Yamaha's approach of using lower quality actions on MODX.

Thanks for the info on USB storage.

On Amazona.de and Bonedo.de reviews of the Nautilus have appeared.
Amazona mentions some downsides of the touchscreen which I also observed in certain YouTube clips (latency, parameter jumps, hit&miss) and Bonedo writes that unlike on the Kronos there’s no option to add a second SSD in the Nautilus.
Bonedo also shows the new sound content loaded into RAM and how large the expansions are.

I have to say that going by what I have heard thusfar the Nautilus has some really great new sounds onboard.

I've seen more positives than negatives at the Nautilus.

I wouldn't mind having one in my house to make animated film soundtrack productions.

it is quite a workhorse.

Unfortunately and due to COVID-19, my income has been dramatically reduced due to the lack of concerts.

recently and with my little budget I got a Kross 2, which has kept me busy.

It is a good keyboard, although with some limitations:
-128MB memory for samples
-No touch screen
-You cannot configure two effects at the same time (Reverb, and Chorus) to create your own settings on each channel in a song.

But he is very versatile when it comes to playing live.

It seems to me that the Nautilus is more practical when making your own adjustments (effects, equalizer, pan, ctrl, etc.) of the channel in sequencer mode.

I will have to wait for this situation to return to normal for everyone, and thus be able to add a Nautilus to the current work team.

Regards.

Yes Greg, I gave a look at Nautilus parameter guide and saw this on page 729 :

Note that Exs can only be installed to internal SSD and not to USB storage media.

So, its an important point as its not possible to add a second SSD into the Nautilus, as it is in the Kronos.

A second SSD in the Kronos (and presumably, if it was possible to fit a second drive to the Nautilus) would not be classed as USB storage media.

good fact finding. sample stream from SSD only.

And further to voip's post, USB storage media has been around for decade or more.

potential owners should be clear on the necessity of SSD for streaming samples.
