Newbie here, but I have pretty extensive knowledge with MIDI. I've run a MIDI solo/duo show for a number of years using a laptop and running Cakewalk. I USB to a MIDIman 4X4 and run main sounds from a Triton le to/from port 1 (upgraded from Triton le to the Kronos), customized sequenced 10 pc light show to port 2... Port 3: Harmonies to a T.C. Helicon Perform VK... and port 4 controlled a Roland JV 1080 strictly for drums (they sound better than even the mighty Kronos). I would make full use of the individual outputs and run separate bass and drums to the mixer, so I have some editing ability.
Here's the plan: Do away with the laptop and run the entire show from the Kronos.
The songs in Cakewalk are easy to edit and one can see everything going on even during the playback. Cakewalk can save songs in GM format, so I would transfer to the Kronos in that format and then tweak my instruments and effects. When I save the seq to the internal memory, it reverts all my instrument choices to the corresponding GM #. If my guitar is U-E-078, I'll save that to disk, and when I reload it, it's the Shakuhachi flute.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple, so if someone could pop a link showing me what that is, I will be eternally grateful Very Happy
