This is a common problem with joysticks in general, as well as pitch and mod wheels. Or any other mechanical components. I've had issues with such devices on almost every instrument I've owned that had them, going back to the early 70's and right up through and including my 7-year-old Kronos.

AFAIK there are only two moving parts in the Kronos: the joystick(s) and the fan. Guess what's the second-most problematic behind the joystick?

Sliders, keys, knobs, switches and buttons (technically) move too.
