Hi All,

I hope I am finding you well.

I recently bought an i30 again (it was actually my first Korg I ever owned, the keyboard is still just as beautiful sounding as I remember it).

I want to save the factory styles to floppy so that I can play them on my newer Korgs, however, I can't seem to work out how to do this.

So, if I take the defaults of saving ALL STYLES in the disk save option, it only saves about a max of 40 odd styles. I can't seem to save the rest. Does anybody know how I can achieve this as I believe there must be around at least 120 odd styles.

Would I need to copy them to the User Banks first? I tried to do this and I can't work out how to save styles to the user banks.

Any help would be great,

Thank you very much indeed,
Danny.

Can't remember how I did it (20 years ago) but I have them and also use some on my PA4x. (Also have extras)
Let me know if you want a copy.

Hi Danny
Try this for starters.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11hYPAYgpVAoN2wwBuaZnrt3xgiYkB9Ea
    This has:
The factory styles from i3 and i30
    i30 free styles
    i30 preload data
i30 documentation and upgrade release notes
    Styles from Roland G1000
    Styles from Yama 8000
Misc styles (Disk4,5,6) - sorry can't remember what they were.

Ignore "_MACOSX" and any ".DS_Store" - these are just generated on Mac (not related to Korg!!)

The way you save the factory styles (A&B) is to use the "SWAP ARRANGEMENTS" option which was added in update 2.1 (see release notes in my zips)
You swap AB with CD and then perform a save - hence you've saved the factory data!!!
Have fun!!

Cheers

Pete Very Happy

Hi Pete,

Thanks again for your files, unfortunately the i30 proload files were exactly the same ones as the one I initially created that had a lot of styles missing.

I also looked into the swap arrangements feature and that didn't do it either, it just swapped the arrangements on live play but not in the user locations.

However, I did finally work out what to do and it's the most convoluted and annoying way to do it but it worked, I am so glad that Korg changed this system as I would have launched all Korgs outside my window if they carried on with this system!!

So in each of the 12 banks it stores 4 styles that are randomly splattered across the style category locations but I had no idea what they were. It turns out that those 12 banks contain styles from location C:11 onwards, eg, user styles (or in Yamaha's term - flash styles). The principle here seems to work similar to how the Yamaha PSR9000 worked, you had to override those flash style locations and you do that by going into EDIT STYLE and the GET STYLE and then save it to your location. You have to do each one individually and even more annoying some are quite large and won't fit in the bank of 4 so you have to then start on another bank and leave that one as 3 styles with one slot left spare and this happened quite a few times which really was time consuming.

It took me about 2 hours in the end but at least I got what I wanted. However, you really need to then re-load the original user styles back into their proper original user locations or the keyboard will be left in a mess, eg, it will have arrangements for a jazz trying to use a garage style so make sure you keep that original preload data safe to reload it back in.

Thanks for your help Pete and I will try out the other styles you sent from Roland.

Take Care,
Danny

Hi Danny
It really is much simpler and quicker than that but you need to have update 2.1 installed

This is how I saved my factory data:-
1. backup C & D to disk (SET A)
2. Swap AB with CD (C & D is now the factory styles)
3. backup C & D to disk (SET B)
4. Swap AB with CD (factory is now back in place)
Now you have everything backed up on disk

Hi Pete,

Thanks again for your reply.

Yes it is the latest version I have installed.

I am not sure where you found those options to back up C & D because when I select DISK and then SAVE, within the .STY check box and drop down I get a choice of BANK 1-12 or ALL STYLES, and whatever I did it just kept saving the same styles so something wasn't quite right. I followed the steps in your previous posts about swapping arrangements and it didn't do anything either.

I may look into it again as I am still curious to know how you're doing it and why I can't seem to get it working your way.

Thanks Pete,
Take Care,
Danny.

SORRY Danny - it's been too many years since my i30.

I was thinking of ARRANGEMENTS (re the "SWAP" function)

Embarassed
