So I finally got the battery low message.
I carefully documented the polarity of battery in socket. I replaced the battery and nothing.... the Kronos keeps complaining about a low battery.

I had 4 CR2032 from CVS - I tested them and they all read 1.6V which I find weird. My multimeter might be going out... I ordered another. But the continuity tester part works fine. I buzzed the socket to make sure there were no shorts. I replaced the battery and tested for shorts - nothing.

But after I boot up, I get the battery low message again. I save the date/time and it still happens. I'm going to wait until my new meter comes in and test the batteries and try again.

Is there anything else I am supposed to do after replacing battery that I haven't done? So weird.

Have you tried the multimeter on any other battery e.g. AA cell, or PP3. Could it be that the CR2032 cells that were bought are of the rechargeable variety, in which case less than 3V across the terminals wouldn't be surprising.

I changed the battery in my K2 a few years ago and I remember that there is a procedure to clear the “low battery” message. Step by step instructions are on page 209 of the operating guide.

One question about battery.
Is it possible to get in Kronos OS when battery is low or empty?

It is my understanding that the battery just keeps the clock/calendar running and has no other function. The Kronos should operate normally even though your bat is low.

Battery in normal PC use to keep BIOS settings.
Time is a part of BIOS settings.
When battery is in low energy state, time is not correct.
Time difference between real time and BIOS time became bigger, as the battery is weaker. When it is so weak that it can no longer support the real time clock, the time is set to a default (1. 01. 1990.....1. 01. 2020), Other settings in BIOS are also lost (if they differ from the factory ones), agree to factory (default). The PC is operational in such a state, but before booting, the time must be set to real time, or another time that differs from the default time.
Is a similar thing happening on Kronos?
Thanks to @Falcon2.
Have a good time.

Thanks guys. My meter comes in tomorrow. I find it extremely odd that all the batteries tested around 1.6V however I believe that would be enough to power the CMOS. Will see shortly.

After replacing the battery you need to reset the system date and time in order to clear the message:
Quote:
You will need make these settings after you purchase the
KRONOS, and after replacing the calendar backup battery.
1. Press the DISK button to enter Disk mode.
2. Select the Disk–Utility page. Press the File tab, and
then the Utility tab.
3. Open the page menu, and select the Set Date/Time
command.
The following dialog box will appear.
4. Use the VALUE controllers to set the correct year,
month, day, hour, minute, and second.
5. Press the OK button.

Thank you. Yes I did that. I set the year etc... and press OK and it takes a second or two. Then I turn off and start up the Kronos and still get the low battery indicator.

I got the meter in, the batteries are over 3v. Not sure why my Kronos is not recognizing the battery. The polarity is correct.

I saw a note in another thread about specific CR2032 batteries from one of the Korg guys ... I wouldn't think it matters but who knows?

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly, sorry you’re still having problems. I don’t think a specific brand of battery will make a difference. Please forgive me for asking, but the protective film on the new battery has been removed, right? Another thing you might try is…using a pencil eraser rub the + side of the battery to make sure it’s clean.

Just out of curiosity, how old is your K?

So check this out. I decided to look into it again and lo and behold, NO LOW BATTERY MESSAGE!

I check the date and I somehow typed in 2022 for the year. So I change it using the keypad to 2022 and press OK. I check it again - it's back to 2022!
I try again, and it still has 2022.

Confused I use the rotary dial and increment to 2023, I press OK and it takes a second to store and I check it again and it's now 2023.

MAYBE I typed in 2022 and forget to press enter??? I'm not sure, but still, after changing all the fields, exiting the field should not need an enter button pressed.

In any case, whatever, it works. Hopefully I have the new Kronos successor with double the polyphony the next time the battery needs to be changed.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Oh and my Kronos 1 is DAY ONE! Smile Amazing that it held up!
