Just wanted to share my preferred way to record my Montage - The Tascam DP-32. This unit sends MIDI sync so all I need to do is lay down tracks as I'm inspired. No computer, no messing with the sequencer. I got it on close-out for $450. Note that newer models (Tascam DP-24SD and DP-32SD DO NOT HAVE MIDI!) - so if you want one you will need to find a used one or get lucky with a retailer that still has old stock.
I don't know of any other recorders currently on the market that have MIDI -- If anyone knows, please share!
Anyway, just thought I'd share. Really loving the Montage -- the key to enjoying gear is to use it as intended and not try to make it something it's not.

I must REALLY be an old fart. When I saw "old-school," I immediately thought it was going to be something like what I used to record on:

I am thirty three and was expecting a tape to tape recorder or huge ass analog micxing console as well. If using a digital mixer like yours is "old school" what is considered the standard of new school?? _________________ Korg R3, Roland SH-201, Roland MC-909, Novation Mininova, Novation Impulse 49, Korg EMX, and a bunch of VSTi's |

Indeed I was expecting to see tape too. Although this kind of recording was popular in the 90s and early 2000s, I guess most people are using computers now.
I was considering going this way too but don't really see the advantage over a computer if you have a decent control surface for your DAW. _________________ Current Gear: Kronos 61, RADIAS-R, Volca Bass, ESX-1, microKorg, MS2000B, R3, Kaossilator Pro +, MiniKP, AX3000B, nanoKontrol, nanoPad MK II,
