I hear lots of EDS sounds in there, anyone hear anything reminiscent of AI2 (01/W, X, N)? I hear it a little in the piano and some of the woodwinds. _________________ Korg Kronos-61, 01/Wfd, SONAR Pro |

One of the other Forum Members has stated that there are no 'user styles'. The spec say's you can have up to 96 additional styles via USB.
Also the Forum Member states that the Yamaha sounds better. I have to agree with him, the Genos does sound better !!
I have no problem tagging me directly !
Well i had a chance to read the manual and inside there is nothing about user styles..
Yes the board does refer to USER STYLES but they are not accessible (maybe in the future with an os update or the os when it will reach the shops will support them) .For now though there are no user styles and no way to load them as far as i have been told...
When we will see a video of it playing a custom style then it will be a very usable keyboard in its category but till then i have seen such "promises" from kurzweil about KP-110 for which an editor would have been released to load 10 user styles ,something that never happened and they even removed the user styles reference from the specs and manual...
Still i believe that yamaha amateur arrangers in the same price range sound better but that is only my personal preference... |
This is where Yamaha scores IMHO in actually producing extra styles and midi files etc... Even the Korg Global Styles web page is out of date and only lists keyboards up to the Pa3X ?
Otherwise the EK-50 appears to be a great 'board |

What a twist, Just checked out EK 50 guitar center, wow I don't if it's EK-50's speakers or online videos being really bad , but this little thing is a beast.
Yes, features are very limited but the sounds and styles are 90% of PA-80/50.
Has my 2 favorite styles: "flipper 6/8" and "analog ballad".
Spent about an hour playing it, very impressed by this little thing _________________ World needs Nikola Tesla’s technologies

Closest would be HI˛ (triton), nothing that reminds of AI˛ , imo _________________ World needs Nikola Tesla’s technologies |

I have both Casio CTX 5000 and a faulty korg EK50 and sounds nothing like a casio. The casio has the new sound chip. Much more natrual and realistic sounds. The korg is using older tech pcm |

I have both Casio ctx5000 and Korg ek50 and can tell everyone here the sounds on the casio are better and using the newer AIX sound chip. As a matter of fact, unlike the korg I dont get note hanging like I do on my Korg. It's got to go back as its faulty.
The korg sounds while good are older than the casio |

Have you had any issue with Casio keybed? Plasticky sounds after some time using it?
I want to buy one of these two keyboards, and it is being very difficult for me to take the decission. With my very limited knowledge:
- I prefer Casio sounds. In terms of rythms/styles, Casio seems to have more modern ones, but maybe Korg styles have a slightly better quality
- Korg sound have too much reverb for my taste, but maybe this can be easily solved via effects setup
- I think Korg EK50 build quality is superior than Casio CTX line one
- I think Korg EK50 keybed is better and long lasting than Casio one (having a keyboard which makes as less noise as possible is important for me)
- Korg is much easier to operate than Casio, but Casio has much more features (which being a complete beginner I would never use)
- It seems Korg speakers are very high quality, which is important for me, as I am not planning to buy any kind of external speaker or PA system
I would be more than happy to receive advice from any of you. Thanks. |

I had an EK50 from the getgo... Super board for the money!! and nice keybed.
I just changed to the i3 - Same OS as EK50 but MUCH better spec and more workstation functions for little more money, but it does NOT have on-board speakers, which can be a plus or minus for some....it does help with the size and weight.
I only miss the keypad thats really all that is missing, but if you can afford the price difference it is worth it IMHO and would be a better option than the Casio.
Others may advise different, but that's my take on it.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, but I prefer a keyboard with speakers. It is not only "a little more money" if I have to also buy speakers / PA system. |
