After going thru the voice name list, there are several things i don't understand. I'm not interested in the user banks themselves - but rather in the samples list. I wanted to know what is the content of the 12GB of sample material. So i went to the "multisamples" chapter with all the lists of what's in the EXs. And this is what i found:
1) As i suspected, there are many samples. Rich F keeps saying on every demo that samples are no longer measured in megabytes.
Well, after taking the german and japanease grand pianos which take a little more than 9GB - you're left with a little less than 3GB for all the rest. There are hundreds and hundreds of samples. This only means one thing: apart from the grand pianos, all the rest of the samples are MEASURED IN FRIGGIN MEGABYTES. And not too many megabytes per sample, at that.
2) I'm a bit confused about how the Exs are arranged. For example Exs-4 is called "Vintage Keyboards". If you look at the list, you see that Exs-4 starts with quite a few Acoustic piano samples, and then some ep's and clavs. Exs-5 starts with mellotron samples. So what's going on?
3) About the vintage keyboards EXPANSION - is this it? If that's all of it than it's a little disappointing. Since the Kronos already comes with EP-1 and CX-3 (and of course polysix, ms-20 etc), i thought (with no justification, as it seems) that something that calls itself a vintage keyboards
EXPANSION should maybe include vintage organs like farfisa and vox, some string machines like solina, electric grands like cp-80, other electric pianos that define that era like the pianet or the RMI. In short - something a little beyond what i managed to see on the EXs-4\5 list.
Or am I reading in the wrong place? Are there other samples of this category somewhere else? |

I have those two right here on my Kurzweil PC3K8. Kurzweil seems to be the only synth company to have these sampled. |
