Hi guys.....

Re: the late EC5 pedal we all once loved...
Probably right now the good old reliable Behringer FCB1010 can perform most of your tasks.
https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0089
Without some of the SYSEX details from Korg, there is still a lot can be programmed into this pedal with PCs and CCs to control styles, sounds, keyboard-sets and more etc.....
The current PA5x Performance Manual does include PC and CC values etc in its MIDI section (from around Page 555).

If you have an FCB1010, I'm happy to help with the programming - there is a free PC editor which is quite good but once you do a bit of on-board programming it becomes quite easy.
FCB1010 manual is not the best, so cry out if you need some help.

Note that if you want the pedals to control styles & songs (p 559 in the manual) add "1" to the values on the pedal: e.g. to activate FILL 1 you must program "88" in the pedal (NOT "87").

Take care

Thanks for all your PA5x feedback - it is so useful.

I had considered one of these before for my KRONOS, but never purchased it.

Any idea how long the cable is? I would need this to reach an upper tier keyboard with a little bit slack for cable routing.

They use normal midi cables. You have to buy whatever length you need. It doesn't come with one.

Good to know - But may create a new problem for me.

Excuse the question, but I don't know. I'm using my MIDI In on the 5x.

Current Setup: KRONOS (Midi Out) to Pa5X (Midi In) - Pa5X (Midi Thru) to D32XD Recorder (Midi In)

If I Added the FCB1010 to this set up I would Run: KRONOS Out to FCB1010 In, FCB1010 Thru to Pa5x In... (rest of Midi chain)

That should work, BUT, will the Pedal work if the KRONOS was turned OFF? In other words do THRU connections work without Power?

Yes, it would still work perfectly.

I’d be surprise if KORG didn’t release a USB Midi Footswitch any day now. The EC5 is old-school. Can’t imagine those cables are easy for KORG to source these days.

It would actually be fairly easy to hack an EC5 Footswitch and make it run over USB.

Sharp.

Not to be argumentative but - I've made several cables over the years for my first 2 or 3 EC5 pedals.
My most common problem is that "D" or "E" starts to play up. This has invariably been a problem with the input socket rather than the switch.
I bought a bunch of sockets and replaced them all.
I now have a working EC5 at all my regular venues.

Sure, I’ve no doubts people can make up a cable at home handy enough. I was just wondering if KORG can even source new ones given how old-school this cable actually is. It's what, a 6 DIN cable? I remember using them often in the 90's for Audio and VCR gear, but I can't think of anything that uses that kind of cable these days.

Sharp.

But the FCB is HUGE!!! no room for any other pedals really.

I suspect, you may be able to attach a USB device to one of the ports and make your assignments to it.

Yes!!! It is big but it also does a lot!!!
Not so good if you have a "X" keyboard stand.

I have mine working well with PA4x and it seems the limited MIDI info we have on the PA5x is the same so it should work well on both

FCB1010 arrives today Smile

Not exactly looking forward to the MIDI setup, but i think I should be able to do a lot with it.

Thoughts on the twin pedals? I was planning on setting one up for Master Volume, and the other for Keys Volume. These are the two parameters that seem to change the most between Styles / Songs.

This would require me to keep my Damper, which is fine - just going to look awkward next the Behringer.

As for switches - 1 and 2 / 4 and 5 (Start Stop Players 1 / 2 respectively)

Still thinking about the remaining 5 Switches . Maybe Pads and a Talkover - or Bass Inversion
